Bruce Lee, a Hong Kong American martial artist, once said, “If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus; and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”

Come and support Jarrett on his first amateur Muay Thai Ultimate 2015 fight located at Marconi Automotive Museum on Sunday, Feb. 15th at 1:00pm.*
Our monthly Buffalo Wild Wings get together has tremendously help team mates develop life long bonds. Eventually training partners turn to family and we can’t think of anything much more positive than that. The fitness master class featuring abdominal exercises are useful for building the abdominal muscles. This is specially useful for improving performance with certain sports, such as Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, back pain and for withstanding abdominal impacts (e.g., taking punches). With the increase in strength and endurance of the abdominal muscles, sticking to a nutritious diet rich in fiber and healthy fats, this will ensure you have the energy to exercise and to support your goal of losing belly fat.
Beginning this month we will be teaching Judo Katas for the adult elite students and our coaches. Judo Katas consists of five sets of three throws each, which are demonstrated both left and right handed. The first in the series is called the Nage no Kata. The first set are hand techniques. The second set hip throws. The third set are leg techniques with the fourth being front sacrifice throws. The final set are side sacrifice throws. Throughout the kata one can see how a threat (for example a blow to the head) develops so that as the aggressor “learns” the defenders action, the defender moves onto another techniques to defeat the attack.
Starting this month, all elite students in peewee, juniors and adults, will train two Saturdays a month under one roof. By everyone training at the same, this will infuse a positive atmosphere, develop a sense of discipline and strong character. Our goal at Sampa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is to cultivate mentally strong individuals; because of how challenging this sport can be at times, we will learn not to put limits on ourselves and to work towards becoming the best we possibly can be.
Sampa Academy hosted a safe and fun Bringa-Friend Sleepover night. Activities included games, Jiu Jitsu lessons, Nerf gun wars, s'mores and movies. The kids definitely had a lot of fun and tons of energy. At the end of each month, all students are required to test for their stripes and belts in order to recognize our students progress, skill, technical and conceptual knowledge and the ability to apply those techniques against a resisting opponent.
