ABOUT THE WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL of PHILADELPHIA Reaching more than 2,100 students from public, private, parochial and charter schools throughout the Greater Philadelphia region each year, the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia’s educational legacy has helped build a growing corps of leaders possessing the critical knowledge, skills, and sensibilities necessary to assume the responsibilities of global citizenship. The Council’s programming features large-scale conferences, workshops, seminars, and speaker events, challenging students to work collaboratively and creatively to address some of the major global challenges of the 21st century.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP Interns work closely with the Council’s Education Department to assist with a wide range of tasks related to the planning and implementation of extracurricular student programs, such as the Council’s International Student Summit (Winter), Global Economic Forum (Spring), Summer Global Leadership Seminar, and Student Diplomat Program / Jr. Model United Nations. Tasks include researching global issues, writing topic briefing papers, identifying expert speakers, helping to conceptualize program content, drafting press releases, and assisting with event responsibilities, as well as providing administrative support to the Education department, as needed. Interns must attend Education events and are encouraged to attend the Council’s speaker events when possible. Flexible hours offered. Consideration will be given to students applying for an internship linked to college credit. Internships are unpaid, but cover reasonable transportation expenses.

ABOUT YOU Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must. An ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure is also necessary. Previous internship experience is preferred. Qualified candidates should be reliable, self-motivated, possess strong oral and written advocacy skills, possess strong computer and research skills, be familiar with current national and global events, and demonstrate a strong interest in international affairs, education, business, journalism, and/or public policy and government.
