FINANCE APPRENTICE PORT OF FELIXSTOWE Purpose The Port of Felixstowe is investing in the future by offering an Apprenticeship opportunity within the Finance Department. During the 2 year fixed term apprenticeship agreement, the role will offer excellent developmental opportunities and exposure to a variety of both finance processes and operational matters. There will be ongoing work on live projects as well as a focus on developing your knowledge of the business requirements of the largest container port in the UK.

Key Accountabilities 

Use and develop the skills obtained through practical, in house learning and college based day release for Level 2 AAT qualification, to provide support within the Finance Department.



Show the willingness and aptitude to learn not only about the Finance Department but also about the wider operation.



Develop an understanding of the role of the department within the business.



Build strong working relationships across the business.



Ensure all work complies with relevant policies, procedures and operating practices.



Follow instructions and guidance from the department to complete all work whilst developing the ability to take ownership of tasks.



Draft comprehensive records of the work undertaken to specified requirements.

Who are we looking for? The successful applicant will have:    

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade A*- C (or equivalent) in Maths, Science, English or a relevant NVQ or equivalent. Enthusiasm to learn, and demonstrable interest in finance. An ability to show evidence of transferable skills. Excellent commitment and communication skills with a positive attitude.

The Finance Apprentice will need to attend day-release at West Suffolk College and will be responsible for their own travel arrangements.

Job Purpose

To develop practical skills and academic learning to successfully complete the requirements of a Level 2 QCEF Diploma in Business Administration. To complete all tasks to the agreed standard and quality.

Support the finance team in administrative duties including filing, sorting and distributing post and scanning, photocopying. Ensure all documentation for meetings is prepared, in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.

Administration processed accurately and efficiently.

Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries and other financial reporting. Support the budgeting process for the business, updating records, maintaining data and running reports at timely intervals throughout the year.

Evidence of personal clear targets and high standards.

Maintain up to date and accurate records within the Finance department. Administer a range of financial processes, offering an efficient and streamlined service. Support finance and improvement projects.

This position requires diligence and discretion as it will involve working in a confidential/sensitive area of the business.



Minimum of 4 GCSE’s ‘A*-C’ grades (or equivalent) including English, Maths, Science.



Expected to obtain a minimum of QCEF Level 2 whilst in the position.



Reasonably long periods of concentration to ensure crucial accuracy, for example: system input, typing documents, updating financial reports.



Able to deligently follow instruction.



General level of awareness and concentration required for working and learning in a finance department.



Ability to organise and prioritise time to complete all required qualification / learning evidence successfully & compliant with agreed targets.



Dexterity in typing preferred.



Occasional manual handling of files to archive.



Frequent movement around the office – filing, meeting visitors, photocopying, scanning.
