To involve parents in the Title I program at La Gloria Elementary School, the following practices have been established: La Gloria Elementary School will hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I programs, the Title I requirements and the right of parents to be involved in Title I programs. The school will convene the meeting at a time convenient for parents and will offer a flexible number of additional parental involvement meetings, such as in the morning or evening, so that as many parents as possible are able to attend. The school will invite all parents of children participating in Title I programs to this meeting and will encourage them to attend by: • • • • • • • • •

providing information in Spanish and English sending an e-mail to the parents that have provided one announcing meetings on the La Gloria Facebook Page posting a monthly calendar on the La Gloria Website providing childcare sending home a written reminder the week of the meeting making phone calls (Connect-Ed) asking for parental input through an annual program evaluation or needs assessment announcing the meetings on the electronic marquee sign

La Gloria Elementary School involves parents of Title I students in an organized, ongoing and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s Title I programs and the Title I parental involvement policy. • • • •

Involvement of the parents on the SSC and ELAC Implementation of the Title I Survey Participation in modifying, editing, and reviewing of the Single Plan for Student Achievement Solicit opinions/interests of parents at SSC, ELAC, MPAC, Coffee Klatches, PTCA and DAC/DELAC meetings. Times and locations are as follows: ● School Site Council Meetings (SSC) First Tuesday of the Month in the LGES Computer Lab at 5:00PM September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, February 2, March 1, May 3 ● English Learner Advisory Council Meetings (ELAC) First Tuesday of the Month in the LGES Computer Lab at 4:30PM September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, February 2, March 1, May 3 ● Migrant Parent Advisory Council Meetings (MPAC) First Wednesday of the Month at 7:00PM in the GHS Library Sept. 2, October 7, November 18, December 2, February 3, March 2, April 6, May 4, May 25 ● Coffee Klatches First Friday of the Month in the Computer Lab at 8:15AM September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, February 5, March 5, May 4

● Parent Teacher Community Advisory Meetings (PTCA) First Tuesday of the Month 6:30 p.m.- FMS ( Sept. – Dec.) & LGE (Jan. – May) September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, February 2, March 1, May 3 ● District Advisory Council/District English Learner Advisory Council (DAC/DELAC) Meetings held in GHS Library at 6:30 PM September 2, November 18, February 3, April 6 La Gloria Elementary School will provide parents of participating children information in a timely manner about Title I programs that include a description and explanation of the school’s curriculum, the forms of academic assessment used to measure children’s progress and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet by: • • • • •

Back to School Night on August 27, 2015 at 6:00PM Open House Night on May 1, 2016 at 6:00 PM Encouraging attendance at parent conferences: Fall: October 19th – 23rd 2015 Spring Conferences: March 30th – April 3rd, 2015 Sharing state and local assessment results

La Gloria Elementary School will, at the request of Title I parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. • •

Encouraging participation in Parent Meetings: PTCA, ELAC, MPAC, Coffee Klatch and SSC Frequent communication including telephone calls and written responses in both English and Spanish

SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT La Gloria Elementary School distributes to parents of Title I students a school-parent compact. The compact, which has been jointly developed with parents, outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. It describes specific ways the school and families will partner to help children achieve the State’s high academic standards. It addresses the following legally required items, as well as other items suggested by parents of Title I students. • The school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction • The ways parents will be responsible for supporting their children’s learning • The importance of ongoing communication between parents and teachers through, at a minimum, annual parent-teacher conferences; frequent reports on student progress; access to staff; opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate in their child’s class; and opportunities to observe classroom activities The Parent Involvement Plan was developed with parent input at the following meetings: School Site Council, Coffee Klatch, and English Learner Advisory Council. It is available in the school office and posted on the website.

La Gloria Elementary School engages Title I parents in meaningful interactions with the school. It supports a partnership among staff, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement. To help reach these goals, the school has established the following practices. La Gloria Elementary School will provide assistance to Title I parents of children served by the school, as appropriate, in understanding topics by undertaking the actions described as follows: • • • • •

the state’s academic content standards the state’s student academic achievement standards the state and local academic assessments including alternate assessments how to monitor their child’s progress how to improve the achievement of their children

La Gloria Elementary School will provide Title I parents with materials and training to help them work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement. • •

Provide Family Education Nights: Technology, Reading, Math, Science Topic-specific workshops for parents. Possible topics include but are not limited to: • How to Raise Emotionally Healthy Children • Common Core State Standards Family Night, 21st Century Skills: December 3, 2015, February 11, 2016, April 14, 2016 • Positive Parenting • Building Your Child’s Developmental Assets • Healthy-focused workshops (Oral Health, Life Skills, Safety Presentations, Diabetes, Asthma, etc.) • Use of Title I parent involvement plan

La Gloria Elementary School will, with the assistance of Title I parents, educate its staff members about the value of parent contributions and how to work with parents as equal partners. • • • •

Reviewing Title I parent involvement plan once a year providing resources to staff members on how to work with parents making positive phone calls to parents Using our electronic marquee as a means of positive communication with parents and the community

La Gloria Elementary School will, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate the Title I parental involvement program with other programs, and other activities, such as parent resource workshops to encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children. •

Collaborate with other district programs (ex. adult education, migrant) as well as outside agencies (Community Human Services, Mo. Co. Children’s Behavioral Health, etc.)

La Gloria Elementary School will ensure that information related to the school and parent programs, meetings and other activities to Title I parents in a format and language that parents understand. Page 4 of 6



providing information either written or oral in Spanish and English

La Gloria Elementary School will provide support for parental involvement activities requested by Title I parents. • Implementation of Title I parent survey and review of its results ACCESSIBILITY La Gloria Elementary School provides opportunities for the participation of all Title I parents, including parents with limited proficiency, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory students. Information and school reports are provides in a format and language that parents understand. • • • • • • • •

involving parents in the development of training for teachers, principals, and other educators to improve the effectiveness of that training. providing necessary literacy training for parents from Title I funds, if the school district has exhausted all other reasonably available sources of funding for that training. paying reasonable and necessary expenses associated with parental involvement activities, including transportation and child care costs, to enable parents to participate in school-related meetings and training sessions. training parents to enhance the involvement of other parents; adopting and implementing model approaches to improving parental involvement; establishing a school parent advisory council to provide advice on all matters related to parental involvement in Title I programs. developing appropriate roles for community-based organizations and businesses, including faithbased organizations, in parental involvement activities. creating opportunities for parents to actively participate in their child’s education (supporting and participating in any school-wide fundraising events; volunteering in the classroom and other school activities such as field trips, family nights, etc.
