EVOLUTION COMPETITIVE SOCCER (2017-18) North Texas offers some of the highest quality Competitive soccer in the country. It is not unusual for teams from as far away as Waco, Midland, Wichita Falls, Amarillo, Longview and parts of Oklahoma to participate in our local Classic and Premier leagues. For soccer players who want a higher level of competition and coaching, and are willing to make the time and financial commitment required, North Texas is definitely the right place to be! Evolution Competitive (a.k.a. “Select”) is a full year soccer program offered by the Colleyville Soccer Association. It’s different from Academy and Recreational soccer in several ways. This document explains those differences, so that you and your son or daughter can make an informed decision about their soccer future. Parents must assess their own level of commitment as well as their child’s in order to determine if Competitive soccer is right for them.
Level of Commitment Expectations are much higher in Competitive soccer. Players are expected to attend every practice, every match and every team event, and to make soccer their top extra-curricular priority. At Evo we do not typically roster the maximum number of players allowed, to maximize development & game time, but this also means that we are counting on every player be there every time, all year long for everything!
Time Commitment Our Competitive teams train in Colleyville at least twice a week, usually 90 minutes per session, during the Fall & Spring seasons. We sometimes do classwork on set plays and soccer theory when practices are rained out, or host teams for friendly matches in lieu of regular training. There are 8-10 league games each season. Leagues play in our area and/or Dallas, Plano or Frisco, so drive time to your weekly match varies from 15 to 45 minutes. Most matches are on Saturday, but a few are on weeknights or Sundays, especially during the Spring season. Tournaments typically run from Friday night to Sunday afternoon.
Financial Commitment Fees cover a full year of professional coaching, league play, field use fees, winter indoor field rental, and typically 4 tournaments and 5-6 friendly matches throughout the year. We also include Agility & Fitness training as assigned by your coach, specialized training for Goalkeepers with a dedicated GK coach, our Emerging Talent Program (ETP) and more. Our program costs less and includes more than other
clubs in our area. We don’t ask for additional assessments for a monthly “club fee” or for tournaments. Colleyville Soccer Association is a 503(c) non-profit, volunteer run youth soccer association which uniquely positions us to deliver a great program to your son or daughter and a great price to you. Our projected fee for 2017-18 is $1,800. For those teams playing in a Classic league, there is an additional $350 to cover the higher league costs, additional tournaments and other expenses. Uniform costs are not included. The projected cost for the mandatory uniform kit for 2017-18 is $340. This a one-time expense for new players; returning players continue to use their existing kit if fits and is in good condition. You are always free to purchase additional or replacement pieces when you need it. 2017-18 Select Uniform Kit Game Day: 1 Xara Anfield Away Jersey (green) 1 Xara Anfield Home Jersey (white) 2 Xara Continental Shorts (green) 2 Xara Elite Socks (green) Cold Weather Gear: 1 Xara Genoa Warm-up Jacket (green) 1 Xara Genoa Warm-up Pants (black) 1 Long-sleeved compression shirt (green) 1 Long-sleeved compression mock (white) 1 Compression pants/sliders (green) optional Other: 1 Xara Magna Backpack (green) 1 Badger Practice Jersey (gray/black) Goalkeepers jerseys & shorts/pants available
Changes for 2017-18: Small-sided Games Area leagues and soccer associations will adopt the US Youth Soccer mandated small-sided format this year, which means that U11-U12 will play 9v9, and 11v11 play starts at U13 now.
Player Selection & League Placement Teams hold open practices throughout June and can Select their players starting July 1st. The selected players then sign contracts and commit to play exclusively for a single Competitive team for the full year, from July 1st to the following June 30th. Competitive players may not participate in Recreational soccer any more, nor can they practice or play with any other Competitive teams. After signing their players, the teams will train & prepare for the various summer seeding and qualifying tournaments in July and August. NOTE: All players must be available for their seeding & qualifying tournaments! The team’s result in their Qualifying Tournament will determine which league and in which division they will play for the entire soccer year. Please talk to your coach if these dates are a problem! Some teams already have Byes into leagues based on their performance last year, but those teams will typically play at least one pre-season tournament. The key dates for Competitive teams, including the qualifying tournaments, are given on the next page:
