The Dream Resource Center (DRC), since its founding in 2011, has emerged as a national source for innovative research, education, leadership development, and policy on immigration issues. Our work is critical to ensure immigrant youth continue to be at the forefront of the national conversations that directly impact their lives and families. We believe that young people deserve the right to learn, be healthy, and pursue their dreams – regardless of immigration status. Current programs and projects:
Dream Summer Fellowship The U.S. Senate’s failure to pass the Federal DREAM Act in 2010 sparked conversations among immigrant youth leaders on how to effectively sustain the immigrant youth movement, giving birth to Dream Summer, a national 10-week summer fellowship for immigrant youth and allies. The Dream Resource Center has fundraised over $3 million to partner with over 100 social justice organizations across the country to provide over 550 fellowship opportunities to immigrant youth and allies. Dream Summer Alumni are now at the front lines of building an intersectional immigrant rights movement and leading nationally renowned organizations. Dream Summer Alumni Network & Council The Dream Summer Alumni Network uplifts, connects, and channels the collective power of 550+ Dream Summer alumni across the country. To guide this work, as well as lead continued personal, professional, and leadership development for alumni, is the Dream Summer Alumni Network Council composed of five alumni located across the country.
Healthy California Project Healthy California develops leaders at the intersection of immigrant rights and health care access. In 2013, Healthy California led the first study by and about undocumented immigrant youth regarding health care access. The research resulted in “Undocumented and Uninsured: A FivePart Report on Immigrant Youth and the Struggle to Access Healthcare in California.” Healthy California has developed over 100 immigrant health leaders across the state of California.
National Undocumented Stories Exhibit Undocumented Stories is a multimedia exhibit that seeks to empower immigrant communities to reconstruct narratives, shape public opinion, and influence policy affecting undocumented immigrant community. Undocumented Stories utilizes storytelling to uplift the lived experiences of the undocumented immigrant community and highlight how they have built a movement to change policies impacting higher education, access to healthcare, and deportation. Undocumented Stories includes stories of unaccompanied minors to help contextualize the current humanitarian crisis. Currently, Undocumented Stories is displayed at the UCLA Labor Center in Downtown Los Angeles and National Education Association (NEA) headquarters in Washington, D.C.
