Dr. M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Parliamentary Debate 2016 Greetings! The Literary and Debating Society under the aegis of Department of Extra Curricular Activities of M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, is proud to present the 7th edition of Dr. M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Parliamentary Debate to be held from 20th August to 22nd August. MSRMPD, as it is popularly known, has evolved to become one of the most competitive tournaments in the Indian debating circuit. We've had the pleasure of hosting some of the best debating minds in the previous editions of the tournament and we intend to keep the legacy intact and provide a platform to bring together the diversity our debating community has to offer. The following are the essential details of the tournament.

RULES OF THE TOURNAMENT: ● Format: British Parliamentary (WUDC) ● Team Cap: 64 teams ● Ins tu onal Registration Cap: 4 teams* ● Rounds: Five preliminary rounds, break to Quarter Finals. Novice break policy will be decided by the adjudication core, taking into account the registrations received. ● Adjudica on Rule: n=1 rule applies strictly.

*Extra slots will be provided based on vacancies that arise after the initial allotments. We welcome participation from cross teams and independent adjudicators. Participants need not belong to an institution to take part in the tournament.

ADJUDICATION CORE 1. Mr. Leomar Doctolero- Hailing from Philippines, it’s truly amazing how much he has accomplished in his debating career. One of the most prominent members of the Asian debating circuit, Mr. Doctolero has an impressive record under his belt­ some of which include, being the 8th best speaker at UADC 2015, breaking to Semi Finals at UADC 2016, and a National Grand Finalist at the 16th National Debate Championship

2014 Cebu (Best speaker). He has also been part of the team that made it to Semi Finals at Asia Pacific ABP Debating Championship 2015 while also being the 10th Best Speaker on tabs; and Quarter Finals at UADC 2015. As an adjudicator, he is part of the adjudication core at ASDC 2016, Asian WSDC 2016 and ABP Jakarta 2016. He has been an open Octo Final adjudicator at Solbridge Austral­Asian Intervarsity Debating Championship 2015. At 2014 ASDC, he was the shadow adjudication core and judged the Grand Finals. He has also been part of the core at College of Saint Benilde IV 2015 (Manila), Pi Sigma Amianan Cup 2013 among other numerous achievements all across Asia. 2. Mr. Chan Sriram- An astounding debater, Mr. Sriram hails from the prestigious NALSAR University, Hyderabad. Some of his outstanding debating achievements include being part of the team that qualified for Quarter Finals at UADC 2016 (9th Best Speaker), HKDO 2015 (Best Speaker). His team also made it to Pre Quarters at MDO 2015 (top Indian speaker on tabs), Quarter Finals at ASDC 2012, NUJSPD 2015 (Best Speaker), and Octo Finals at WSDC 2012. Moreover, he has been part of teams that made it to Semi Finals at MSRMPD 2014 (2nd Best Speaker),2015, VITDT 2015 (3rd Best Speaker). As an adjudicator he has been part of the adjudication core at RVDT 2015, VITness BP 2015 and Manipal Debate 2016. He was also awarded as the best adjudicator at NALSAR IV 2013 and IITM PD 2014. He judged at SOAS Schools 2016, and was an invited adjudicator at ICYD schools Westminster Leg16. 3. Mr. Ajinkya Deshpande- Strengthening the quality of our core even further, we are proud to present one of the brightest debaters from IIT­Bombay. He has been in teams that won NLS 2015, GNLU 2015, and St. Xavier’s Mumbai 2014 (Best Speaker). He has also been part of teams that made it to Grand Finals at ILS PD 2015 and IIT­B 2015. His team has also been in Semi Finals at Leiden open 2016 (Top 10 speaker), VIT 2014 and NALSAR IV 2013; Quarter Finals at ABP 2015, and Octo Finals at MDO 2015. Moreover, as an adjudicator he has been part of the adjudication core at NM School of Law Debate2016, LFPD 2015­ Pune. He has been Grand Finals adjudicator at Damasandra Open Debate 2015, Kuala Lumpur. He was also one of the top 10 judges at Malaysia national novice, and best adjudicator at MCC 2013, Bangalore. He was an invited male adjudicator at IWDC 2015. 4. Mr. Viraj Parikh­ An NLS Bangalore graduate, Mr. Parikh has an exemplary debating career under his belt, which includes being part of the team that won NALSAR IV 2013, St. Xavier’s Debate 2010, the prestigious MukMem 2011 and NUJS PD 2016. He has also been part of the teams that made it to the Grand Finals at the NUJS PD 2012 and IITB IV 2010. His team has also made it to Semi Finals at MukMem 2013, IITB IV 2011 and RVDT 2011. In the past he has been part of the adjudication Core at the Mount Carmel College Debate 2013, NLS Debate 2013 and NALSAR IV 2015. He is also part of the adjudication core at DMD 2016. 5. Ms. Achita Jacob- Finally, we are extremely proud to present yet another wonderful debater and the final addition to our core. Ms. Achita hails from IIT­Bombay, and has

bagged numerous debating achievements, some of which include being part of the team that won IIT­B Debate 2013, and also making it to the Grand Finals at VITDT 2015, NALSAR IV 2014, ILS PD 2015, GNLU Debate 2013, 2014, Xavier’s 2014 and RVDT 2014. She has also been 2nd best speaker at ILSPD 2015 and Xavier’s 2014 and 3rd best speaker at GNLU Debate 2014. Moreover, her teams have been in Semi Finals at IITD Debate 2014, NUJS 2014 and VITDT 2014. As an adjudicator, she has been part of the adjudication core at KNC PD 2015, NUALS 2014, Artem Disserandi 2015, SLS PD 2016, SSE PD 2016, ILSPD 2016, VITness BPD 2015 and IWDC 2015 (invited adjudicator at IWDC 2016). Moreover, she judged the Grand Finals at UADC 2016, MDO 2016 (2nd Best Adjudicator), Beijing Debate Challenge 2016, Quarter Finals at WUDC 2016, and Semi­Finals at MDO 2015. She has won Best Adjudicator at NTU DC Singapore 2016, SLS PD 2015 and was also 2nd best adjudicator at SMC PD 2015.

ADJUDICATOR SUBSIDY At MSRMPD, we believe that sound adjudication is central to the process of building a successful tournament. To reaffirm this belief, this year we have substantial registration and travel subsidy to give out. The subsidy application process shall begin within a week. PRIZE MONEY The prize money kitty for this year’s edition of the tournament is ₹ 75000 and is subject to a definite upward revision.
