Schools Division Superintendent OIC Chief, CD and SGOD Education Program Supervisors Public School District Supervisors Private / Public Secondary School Administrators In conformity with the Regional Activities in Science, Regional Memo no. 270 s. 2016 and in supporting our Science program Collective Resources Enhancing Activities for Teaching Excellence in Science (CREATES) this Division will hold the Division Science Quiz, Sci-Dama, Science Trivia, On the Spot Poster Making Contest, Teachers Quiz, Innovative Instructional Materials for the NAT Least Mastered Skills and Sci-Folio on September 27, 2014 at Dasmariiias Main National High School, City of Dasmarifias, Cavite. 2. This competition aims to: a. promote science and technology consciousness among the youth. b. enhance the mastery of basic learning competencies in secondary science. c. strengthen the skills of teachers in research and pedagogy. 3. Guidelines on the Conduct of the Science Test 1. All contestants will answer the same set of questions for the written phase. 2. The top five (5) scorers for the public and top five (5) for the private will qualify for the oral phase. 3. The scores in the written phase will be added to the score in the oral phase. 4. In the oral phase, there will be four (4) rounds namely: Easy, Average, Difficult, and Clincher. The Clincher questions will only be asked in case of a tie. Seven (7) questions will be asked in the easy round, Seven (7) for the average round and seven (7) for the difficult round. 5. The question may come in any of the following forms: a. Multiple choice b. Identification c. True or False d. Problem Solving 6. Points are assigned for each questions: 1 point each Written Phase 1 point (10 sec. to answer) Easy question 2 points (20 sec. to answer) Average questions 3 points (30 sec. to answer) Difficult questions 1 point Clincher questions 7. Questions will be read twice in English by the Quiz Master. After the second reading, the quiz master will say "go", only then will the contestants be allowed to write their answers. The time limit will begin with the word "go" by the quiz master. 8. After the time limit and buzzer sounds, the contestants will automatically stop writing and raise their pencils and pens. 9. The proctor will read and verify the answers. 10. Answers with incorrect spelling, without unit or incorrect units are rendered wrong. 11. The panel of judges will address questions from the advisers before proceeding to the next question. Decisions made by the judges are final and must be respected. 12.NO elimination is given for each round. 13. After the seventh question in the difficult round, the total number of points of each contestant is tabulated. 14. The contestant who gets the highest number of points is automatically declared the champion. 15. In case of a tie, a tie breaker question shall be given and a winner shall be determined in a first-to-score basis. SCIENCE TRIVIA

Mechanics of the Sci-Dama Competition General: 1. There shall be one (1) category in the tournament, the student category. 2. The top five (5) winners will be awarded for public and top five (5) for private schools. 3. The players shall wear school ID and their tournament ID number during the duration of the game. Specific: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Sci-dama rules shall be applied during the duration of the game with a time limit of twenty (20) minutes. Double elimination System shall be used and applied with the matches and pairing of players. The matches and pairing of players shall be done by the arbiter Timers and scratch papers shall be used in the game. The arbiter /facilitator shall not announce the remaining time for the players to move, but declare if the player consumed more than the one minute. 6. A ten (10) minute defaulting time shall be applied and the game time shall reset anytime as announced by the arbiter, players are not allowed to leave the room as the game started. 7. During the process of the game, players may raise his/her hand to contest or clarify a certain point. The winter shall stop the clock, record the remaining time and the player who will make the next move. The arbiter shall also clear any argument and consult the chief arbiter if necessary, coaches are not allowed to intervene. 8. The player with the least score shall be declared as winner. 9. A player with the most number of wins shall be declared as the champion. 10. Players annoying or causing disturbing acts, for example: tapping the chairs, tables, whistling, etc. shall forfeit his game after he fails to observe the first warning by any tournament officials. 11. Players, coaches and spectators are not allowed to make post game analysis or play against other players, coaches, spectators and discuss finished and unfinished games within ten meter radius of the playing areas. Coaches are only allowed within the playing area if requested by the arbiter/tournament manager. 12. Players are not allowed to eat or drink at the playing area while the game is in progress. However, he/she may ask permission to leave the playing area at his own time. 13. In taking a chip, pass is not allowed. If player has an option, then he may use one(1) minute but has to take the chip anyway. 14. No save by the bell in the last minute of the game. Continuation or move will be observed when a chip/s is to be taken. 15. A player records his/her own move and computation of scores. 16. In moving a chip, touch move should strictly observed except when the move contradicts the general guidelines on SciDama games. 17. No complaints will be entertained after the players have signed the score sheets. 18. Tie breaking rules: a. Winner over the other b. Lowest sum of all winning game scores.

Ground Rules 1. There shall be no time violation during the last two minutes of the game, infraction of this rule by a player shall lose by forfeiture. Violation or infraction of three of the same kind or collectively by a player on the following shall mean stoppage of the game in favor of opposing player. 1. A player shall move the chip first before recording his/her move/s. Touch move policy shall be followed. 2. A player is allowed to move within one (1) minute. Two or more takes is considered as one move. A move is completed if the score sheet is passed to the opposing player. 3. Incomplete data of a score sheet is a violation. 4. In sci-notation the player shall write the number in scientific notation up to four decimal places. Example: (4) 95 = 2.4200x10 5. In the event that the remaining time is only one second, when the score sheet is passed to the receiving player who has to take a chip, he/she shall be forced to take it and record the move in the score sheet and automatically terminates the game.

H.6. 1

A scie folio is a contest category where a contestant will prepare a one page

document that contains essential concepts, processes and steps of a certain approach or strategy in teaching science and how it is used in teaching the skills and content. It shall give the reader a full understanding of the strategy and its underlying principles together with a simple procedure or activity that further show how it is implemented. Anchored on the 2C-2I-1R, the scie folio presents current trends, visually communicates an idea, shows design and innovation in teaching and is a well-executed piece of written work.

Contestant is expected to be at the venue 5 minutes before the contest proper with his pen and paper for the preparation of his / her draft.

H.6.3 Proctor will pick a piece of paper that contains the pedagogy or strategy on which the contestant will focus his/her scie folio.

H.6.4

The contestant upon the announcement of the strategy by the proctor will be

given 50 minutes using a laptop or computer in the contest venue to prepare or develop his or her sci folio. After the given time, outputs of each contestant shall be printed and submitted to the board of judges.

All folios must fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

use the internet to improve, search or develop completely his or her contest piece.

MECHANICS An innovative instructional material is a teaching learning material in science that supports 21' century learning. It is a carefully designed and customized instructional material that can transform the way science is taught in the classroom, can affect student achievement and can engage learners in the highest quality learning activities. As a mechanism to deliver the concepts and skills in science, the material shall be handy, easy to operate or use, makes use of available, indiginized or local materials and can be replicated by teachers to facilitate effective learners learning.

1. Contestant is expected to be at the venue 5 minutes before the contest proper. 2. Display board (cartolina ) must be ready before the judges will visit the assigned area. Each contestant will be assigned a table to showcase or display his/her JIM. 3. Each contestant shall present his/her JIM in 3 minutes to the judges prior to the interview. 4.
