From the Desk of Father Tom... VIABILITY & FUTURE STAFFING STUDY Every parish in our archdiocese is conducting a survey regarding parish viability and future staffing of parishes based on the fact that in five years there will be 30 less priests to serve our parishes, and in ten years 60 less priests. Our parish leadership groups, the Parish Council and Finance Council, have already completed the survey. Now the heads of our parish organizations will be completing the survey. In order to have the opinion of as many of you as possible I would ask anyone who is interested in letting his or her voice be heard to gather this coming Tuesday, August 25, in the Duchesne Center Hall at 6:30 PM to receive the survey with instructions on how to complete it.

♫ NORTHEAST DEANERY CHILDREN’S CHOIR ♫ The Northeast Deanery Children’s Choir is holding auditions for its second season. The Choir is open to children in grades 4 – 8 within the Northeast County Deanery, but is primarily for those who do not have the opportunity to sing in a parish children’s choir. We are looking for singers who are able to match pitches, are committed to attending weekly rehearsals and leading the singing for Mass at one of the participating churches once a month from September 2015 through May 2016. Participation in the Choir will enable these children to 1) use their talent for singing in praise of our Lord 2) expand their vocal and musical abilities. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM – 6:00 pm at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 10235 Ashbrook Drive, 63137. In our first season we led the singing for Masses at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Our Lady of the Rosary Church and Sacred Heart Church. The Choir was comprised of children from each of these parishes as well as Christ, Light of the Nations School and a homeschooled child. We also participated in the Pueri Cantores Festival and Mass, sang our Christmas program at the Veterans Home, and enjoyed a Christmas Party and Spring Picnic. Auditions will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25th Tuesday, September 1st Thursday, September 3rd For more information and to schedule an audition please contact Mrs. Theresa McWilliams, Director of Music at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church by email [email protected] or by phone (314) 869-8938.

HOSPITAL/NURSING HOME NOTIFICATION Due to the privacy laws, hospitals and nursing homes are no longer allowed to notify the parish when our parishioners are admitted unless they are asked to call us. Even though they ask you what religion and parish you belong to, do not assume that they will call us. If you, or your loved one, is admitted to the hospital, please call the rectory to have their name added to our prayer list. Every effort will be made by one of the priests, Sr. Jo Ann or our parish nurse to come to the hospital to visit. We would also like to know when one of our parishioners have moved into a skilled nursing facility. Thanks for your help.

WELCOME GUESTS We are glad you are here. If this is your first time with us, WELCOME! If you would like more information on becoming a member, please call the rectory at 837-3165 or check us out on the internet at www.stferdinandstl.org.

Please contact the Parish Office at 314-837-3165 if you have an address or phone number change.

ADORATION CHAPEL Many visitors to our Eucharistic Chapel shared their thoughts and feelings about the time they spend with the Hidden Jesus.

“All I can say is that when I don’t get to Adoration there is something missing in my day. I am very peaceful during this time before the Blessed Sacrament and just absorb what ever it is the Lord wants to give me. It is like the soul is sunning itself in front of the Sun of Eternity.”
