Storytelling Spectacular Next week we are eagerly looking forward to the visit of New Zealand author Stu Duval. Stu th will arrive in school on November 9 and will th be working in classes through to the 11 . We have to say a big thank you to our BPTA who have generously agreed to cover all the costs of the visit. We’re grateful to our PTA for this support and it’s fantastic that every child, from Nursery to Year 6 will be able to have the opportunity to listen to Stu.

REMINDERS

Stu will deliver about an hour long story session in the amphitheatre for children in Years 1 to 6, with Nursery and Reception children having special sessions in their units

We’re delighted to be hosting such a well respected author at school and his presence, following our recent PTA Book Sale and set alongside our forthcoming reading day is all designed to give reading a high profile in BPS.

In addition year 3- 6 will have a creative writing session in the Library while the younger years will have a cartooning session.

Stu will be selling some copies of his books and details of how these can be obtained will be sent out next week.

As well as the opportunities for children, we haven’t forgotten our parents! Stu is a hugely entertaining speaker and will be putting on a session where he will be talking to the parents about "The Power of a Great Story". This will take place in the amphitheatre on Thursday starting at 10.40 and finishing at 11.40. Tech Crew by Mr. Dipak Mondal On Saturday 29 October, our BPS Tech Crew had a fantastic opportunity working with students from Tatung University and Kevin Cheng (Associate Professor, Graduate Institute of Design Science, Department of Computer Science and Engineering) in a Maker Day event, funded by the Ministry of Education.

The children were given a problem and a design case to create something interactive and fun. Through problem solving, collaboration, creative and critical thinking the children were able to make imaginary creatures come alive.

As you can see from the photos the Tech Crew had a fabulous morning!

H1 and Year 4 Students Collaborate over Halloween Hats by Ms. Siobhan Baker On Friday 28th October all the H1 students from ESC travelled down to EPC bearing a special cargo. The H1 students had been working hard during their Maths lessons using complicated formulae to create individual, accurate and creative hats with a Halloween theme for the younger students. In return, after measuring their heads and specifying a hat height, the Year 4 students then measured-out and mixed accurately,

ingredients to make cookies in return for their hats. Both cookies and hats were truly fantastic! With great excitement and anticipation the students met up and traded their gifts. We then held a Halloween Family Fortunes game, and we still aren't sure who the winner was! Some of the more confident students led a cat-walk parade, showing off their hats and

posing scarily. It was fantastic to have a unique event that involved students from Secondary. Thanks to H1 students for all their hard work.

“Night at the Library”– Year 5 Show 2016 It has been a dramatic week this week in Year 5 as we performed our show “Night at the Library” for students, staff and parents. The children worked hard over the holidays to learn their lines, and for the last 2 weeks have

worked tirelessly pulling it all together to create a wonderful performance. The show was based around the significant author’s topic, using the works of Paul Jennings, Roald Dahl, Robert Louis Stevenson and David

Reading Day - Friday 18th November (an all day, Tri-Section Tri event) As a British Primary Section we would like to invite parents to nominate friends, colleagues or themselves to come and read a story or extract from their favourite book to one of our primary classes. We would be delighted if you could help to make this event a memorable one for our students. If you know of anyone who would be interested, please invite them to contact contac Duncan Millward at, [email protected] [email protected].

The time is flexible during the day - you could do a 10 minute read in your child's class or you could read to a whole year group! Let Duncan Millward know the time and age group you would like to read to and he will arrange a schedule to fit. We are looking for readers in English, but will never turn an international reader away! Paper Aeroplane Fly Off Competition by Duncan Millward During our successful Mad Science Day last Friday, Mrs Adams, Mr Groom and Mrs Lovrincevic set the children a challenge to build bu an aircraft that could fly the furthest. Any child could participate, however they were limited with the materials they could use - 6 straws, 6 sheets of paper, sellotape, blublu tack, 2 paper clips and scissors. After some entertaining fly-offs offs among classes, a grand fly-off fly occurred today in the MPR room where the budding Wilbur and Orville Wrights were discovered.

Cafeteria Lunch – Home made lunch delivery by Mr. Kerry Nockolds At the start of each year there are a number of new parents trying to get to grips with the new school procedures and rules, and this is true of the procedures for the cafeteria and student lunching also. So this is just a reminder/helpful guide to the cafeteria lunch process if your child is bringing their own home-made home lunch to school.


Lunches must be delivered to the cafeteria at the start of the school day, before 8:00am.
If your child’s lunch is to be heated at lunchtime, please do the following: o Use a stainless steel lunchbox (with your child’s name and class code clearly marked). ma  Please don’t use other materials for lunch boxes as they can melt when put in the steamer. (we will only put stainless steel lunchboxes into the steamer) o Put the lunchbox into the refrigerator before 8:00am. o The lunch will be put into the steamer machine machine by the cafeteria staff ready for your child’s lunch sitting.
If your child’s lunch does not require heating, they may keep it in their school bag until their lunch sitting or it can be placed on the lunchbox rack at the back of the cafeteria and picked picked up at lunchtime. (Please ensure the lunchbox is clearly named, and put into the correct section’s rack) Please note: Due to safety concerns, during cafeteria lunch period, the cafeteria is out of bounds to all,, except on duty staff and students. It is not permissible to deliver lunch to the cafeteria/school except before 8:00am, as outlined above. Thank you for your cooperation, and if you have any questions related to this or ordering the school lunches please contact M Ms Gloria Chen, Cafeteria Supervisor, ext. 1810.
