this celebration of Dublin GAA and further details will be announced in the coming days. Tony Delaney, Round Tower GAA Club Chairman commented: “It’s a great honour for Round Tower GAA Club to host this great sports event and we are eagerly looking forward to it. It is a brilliant way to round off what has been a very historic and memorable year in the prestigious history of this 129 year old club.” 2013 saw the official opening of the Monastery Road facility on 20th April when the Dublin Football team, managed by Clondalkin native and Round Tower man Jim Gavin, played the Galway Senior Footballers. In September Jim guided the Dublin footballers to All-Ireland glory and the Clondalkin native and the All-Ireland Champions were afforded a remarkable homecoming one Sunday in September when 4,000 people lined the streets of the village to mark the triumph. “Jim’s achievement has further heightened the excitement and enthusiasm for Gaelic Games in Clondalkin, particularly amongst our young people,” Tony added. “We’re delighted to welcome the All-Ireland Football Champions back to Monastery Road. In tandem with the footballers, the success of Anthony Daly and the Dublin hurlers has added momentum to the enthusiasm for our national games within the community and we look forward to watching them play on our magnificent home pitch. It’s a great opportunity for families to bring their children to see the Dublin footballers and hurlers up close. People from Clondalkin, surrounding communities, GAA fans and all are very welcome to join for this great occasion.” Keep an eye on www.roundtower.ie for further updates.
Round Tower GAA Club to host Dublin Footballers & Hurlers The All-Ireland Football and Leinster Hurling Champions will take to the playing pitch of Round Tower GAA Club on New Year’s Eve. We are very proud to announce the club will be hosting this year’s Dublin Bus/The Herald Dubs Stars 2013 fixtures at our new state-ofthe-art playing facilities at Monastery Road. Jim Gavin will bring his All–Ireland winning Footballers back to his home-town of Clondalkin for this very special occasion and Anthony Daly will be travelling with the Leinster Hurling Champions and All-Ireland semifinalists. The Dubs Stars football and hurling teams are selected by The Herald based on Dublin county championship and league performances and they will compete against the county footballers and hurlers at Monastery Road hours before we move into 2014. The Dubs Stars occasion is an annual fixture on the Dublin and national GAA calendar and will present a fantastic opportunity for the people of Clondalkin and surrounding communities to watch their GAA heroes up close. The games will be played under newly installed floodlights on the Monastery Road playing pitch. The newly developed GAA complex is one of the finest sporting facilities in Dublin and also encompasses a 95 x 65 metre GAA all-weather floodlit playing pitch and a 23 metre wide skills wall. The Leinster Hurling Champions will take on the Dubs Stars selection at 5pm and the AllIreland winning Footballers will compete against the equivalent selection at 7pm. Ciaran Carr was a gifted footballer. The Tower's and the Dubs. His legacy will span the Clondalkin generations. The village has now made history. It became the first community in Ireland to have a defibrillator in every school in the locality. Twenty defibrillators have been presented to the schools. The event took place at the Laurels on Friday night two weeks ago. That's where the initiative was launched by Dublin manager Jim Gavin. The project is a result of the fund-raising efforts of the Laurel's Charity Crew and the Ciarán Carr Foundation. SCREENING The Ciarán Carr Foundation was set up last April. It runs a number of initiatives, which include raising awareness of Sudden Adult Death (SADS) and screening young people. In October, over 1,000 people took part in the 'Defibz 4 Kidz' 10k Fun Run/Walk in Corkagh Park. "The donations of people made all this possible and we are all so very grateful," said Ciarán's dad, Philip. Ciarán's mother, Gemma, added: "A defibrillator is a vital piece of equipment." "And although we hope they will never have to be used, they can offer peace of mind to parents and students," Gemma said.
