Redwood School 27 July 2017 Pānui One - Term Three

Redwood Avenue, Tawa, Wellington 5028 Ph: 232 7704 www.redwood.school.nz General email: offi[email protected] Finance email: [email protected] Current roll: 393 students

Tenā koutou Parents and Caregivers Welcome to Term Three, this is a ten week term. Many thanks to Belinda Evans and her team for the great Swimming Sports yesterday. Well done to all the swimmers, you all put in an amazing effort. Thanks also to Todd and his team from EasySwim for supporting this event. Student Led Conferences are being held on 16 and 17 August. A letter was sent home today outlining the procedure and the booking information. Learning Goal reports will be sent home with students on 11 August. On both days school will close at 2:30pm with the first conference at 2:45pm. Students can be collected from class at 2:30pm or they will be supervised in the hall until 3pm. Students will only be released at 2:30pm for an adult, please contact your class teacher if you are unsure. Winter ills are still hanging around in Term Three. Please ensure children have appropriate clothing for school and that when sick children stay home until well, to ensure that the spread of germs is kept to a minimum. Contact the office to inform us of any absences. A reminder that as a school we are part of a community. We are neighbours to many. It is through the behaviour of whanau that we stay as respected members of the community. Please take care of where you park around the school, this includes St Edmunds Crescent where many parents wisely park and walk to collect children. Remember that yellow lines and driveways are illegal to park on or over. Please do be considerate. On the evening of 29 and 30 July the local Land Search and Rescue group will be using our school grounds to conduct an exercise. They will be on site from approximately 7pm to 9pm. This is a training exercise as they search for a ‘missing person’. Please do not be alarmed if you hear or see this activity. Our wonderful ‘100 days of school trees’ were treated to some great rain in the holidays and have started to look good, the trees are roped off, we ask people to stay out of the area on the weekends and during school time. The sandpit (version 2) is nearly ready for use, thanks to all those students who had input into the changes being made. Upcoming events: 1 August - ICAS English 3 August - TIS Open Evening - PFG quiz evening 4 August - Dress in Red, Heart Kids Fundraiser, gold coin donation 8 August - Dance for Schools, 30mins session for all classes (Activity Fee) 9 August - TIS Open Morning 14-18 August - Maths Week at school 14 August - Life Ed Van arrives 15 August - Feeling Brave with Avril McDonald -Year 1-3 classes (Activity Fee) 15 August - ICAS Maths 16/ 17 August - Student Led Conferences school closes at 2:30pm each day

Raffle tickets went home this week, please return if you are not able to sell so we can re-distrubute.

The Activity Fee can be paid either in full or on a term by term basis. Our bank account for internet payment is ASB bank 12-3140-0316668-01. Please add a reference to what the payment is for and a child’s name and room number. A reminder that the school policy around cellphones brought to school by students is very simple. The phone should remain in the student’s bag during school hours and not be used. If phones are used then a staff member will hold them for the day and may ask parents to collect them. A reminder that it is not our practise here at school for families to bring food for students on the occasion of a birthday. It is generous, but we have many students who have allergies or are sugar free. We also encourage students to only be drinking water here at school.

Thanks Chetna and Malisha for the awesome dreamcatcher now on display in the library - a wonderful 100 day activity.
