Tenā koutou Parents and Caregivers We celebrated a wonderful book week last week. Special thanks to Jan, Nic and Ms Gargan for the wonderful decorations in the library. There were so many activities over the week with the grand finale of having families join us for our house group reading session. Book Week is always a great time for us all to celebrate the library as the heart of our school. Thanks to the PFG for the sausage cooking and to all the families (60) who shared family photos of reading on the Tuesday night. It is always great to see the support that families have for our students and their learning. Congratulations to all the Tawa Zone Cross Country runners. 24 students have made it through to the Inter Zone event and we were the proud winners of the Tawa Sports Challenge Cup. We have our next roll growth class starting after Queen’s Birthday with Lata Govind beginning in Room 7, we are thrilled to welcome her back to our staff. We also welcome Ella Bryant to our staff, she is a new teacher aide currently working in Room 14. Do you have a child at Redwood School? Is their sibling going to turn five this year? If you live ‘out of zone’ please make sure you submit an Application for Enrolment into our next ballot which closes 9am Friday 16 June 2017.  All ‘out of zone’ applications are also due at school by this date. Information and forms can be found on the school website. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call us. The leader for the Tawa CoL (Community of Learning) has been appointed; Robyn Chester the Tawa College Associate Principal was the successful applicant. The Governance Group were thrilled with the high calibre of the applicants and believe that Robyn will be a good person to bring the CoL together and lead us into the future. The next stage will be to appoint staff who will share their expertise across schools. Teacher Only Day tomorrow will be focussed on continuing to develop our Student Inquiry teaching model. Staff will be working with our outside facilitator to deepen our pedagogical knowledge and translate this into successful classroom teaching. Term Two often brings winter ills, please ensure children have appropriate clothing for school and that when sick, children stay home until well to ensure that the spread of germs is kept to a minimum.

Upcoming events: 2 June - Teacher Only Day - school closed 5 June - Queen’s Birthday 6 June - Strike performance 14 June - ICAS Spelling 20 June - Interzone Cross Country 30 June - Matariki celebrations (buddy class) 7 July - 100 Days of School celebrations - Term Two finishes Check out the PFG site via the link here or on the school website. http://www.redwoodschoolevents.co.nz/ Thanks to everyone who assisted with the roti orders and delivering these on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Heart disease is New Zealand’s biggest killer and we need your help to stop it

At Bigair Gymsports, kids love Gymnastics, Trampolining, Tumbling, Parkour and Cheerleading! Coaching kids at Bigair Gym is one of the most rewarding jobs as we get to support kids and see them develop new gym skills, like cartwheels and walkovers etc which kids love, and they learn a range of personal skills; including increased selfconfidence, self-reflection and pride in their achievements as they progress through our 10 level badge programme. It is highly recommended that children start gymnastics at 3yrs due to being excellent preparation for starting school, and once children are at school, gym replicates the fundamental learning processes which supports children’s learning at school so the benefits and rewards are substantial. To find out what class would benefit your child the most, please call our Tawa Bigair Gym on 2323508 or email [email protected]

Experience Marsden Day - for Year 6 girls Samuel Marsden Collegiate School invites Year 6 girls to attend the Experience Marsden Day on 14 June. This is an opportunity to meet other students who may be entering Marsden in Year 7 in 2018, and to explore the campus and opportunities at the school. Please register here.

All Heart Racers get a free dry fit sport top and the chance to win cool prizes

The Activity Fee can be paid either in full or on a term by term basis. Our bank account for internet payment is ASB bank 12-3140-0316668-01. Please add a reference to what the payment is for and a child’s name and room number. A reminder that the school policy around cellphones brought to school by students is very simple. The phone should remain in the student’s bag during school hours and not be used. If phones are used then a staff member will hold them for the day and may ask parents to collect them. A reminder that it is not our practise here at school for families to bring food for students on the occasion of a birthday. It is generous, but we have many students who have allergies or are sugar free. We also encourage students to only be drinking water here at school.

Good news! It’s not too late to join Marrzipan! Marrzipan is a revolutionary self-confidence programme aimed at bringing out the absolute best in students. We are looking for some awesome students to fill some parts in our play, which we will perform for parents and their peers at the end of term. Come along to a no-obligation Trial Lesson and see whether you like it! You can sign up for one directly via our website www.marrzipan.com (we have contact numbers on there too, should you prefer to talk to a human!)
