Room 1 Wow wasn’t it a good night on Friday for everyone? Thanks must go to Hazel’s leadership, Haidee’s food purchasing, Shereen’s D.J work, with the P.T.A’s members and teacher’s support, this event ran like a well oiled machine. The children also presented imaginative pumpkin creations for us all to enjoy. Congratulations on everyone’s efforts. In class we have been writing recounts on the Pumpkin Event and it seems from the rolling, many cows are going to be having lots of delicious mashed pumpkin for dessert. Children are assuring me they are practising their basic facts for the Friday test. If the sums are correct in the timed test on Friday, a new sheet will be given out on Monday. Please can parents help children find their spelling notebook, only the minority of the class had notebooks ready with words learnt, for last Friday’s testing. In Maths, we have started a Time Unit. Any help at home reading the clock’s hour/half and quarter hour times will help develop their knowledge further. It is also important to point out to children the clock times when home routines happen e.g dinner, bed and breakfast. Today and tomorrow the Trust Life Education Van will be here with Bernie and Harold. This will result in an exciting revisit for some and a new adventure for others in Room One. We will be learning how special and unique we all are, while respecting others. We will be also learning how our body works and its needs. This is always an enjoyable learning experience for everyone. Theresa

I would like to assure you that under no circumstances did it come from Ngakuru School and that the school would never give out the personal email addresses (or any other parent information) without seeking prior permission from you to do so. It would constitute a breach of the Privacy Act 1993 if we did. Achieving Excellence Assembly We are having our Term 1 “Achieving Excellence Assembly” on Wednesday 12th April at 12pm. Please join us for this occasion. Central Schools Swimming Champs

Room 2 Firstly I want to say how much fun the pumpkin disco was last Friday! It’s definitely a unique event that the kids really seem to enjoy. Thank you to the PTA for all your hard work in getting that up and running. Well done everyone who decorated a pumpkin and congratulations to Jack, Renee, Tuhoe and Calais for their awesome decoration and pumpkin weights. Just a reminder that the students still have their reading, spelling and maths practice to do at home, we will keep this going strong for the last two weeks of term. This Friday our classroom are having ice-cream sundaes as part of our star dollars rewards system that we have in the classroom. If your child has any food allergies can you please ring me or Fran in the office to inform us of these. With the wet weather and the cold slowly coming in some students are asking if they are allowed to wear slippers in class. I am more than happy for them to wear something warm on their feet during class time however these are not to be worn outside, only inside. Janae

Xanthus, Aidan, Hunter, Charlee and Eilidh took part in the novice events and represented Ngakuru School with pride. Thank you to Shereen for being the team manager on the day and the other parents for your support.

On Monday the students completed their CensusAtSchool. Our data has been submitted and we are looking forward to viewing and analyzing the data. Filling in the survey (13 pages!!) gave the kids real experience in interpreting and filling in answers to a variety of different types of questions. The Census has also provided opportunities to practise our maths in real situations. As well as Statistics, we have covered length, weight, time, number knowledge with rounding numbers to the nearest 100 and also had practise in converting measurements e.g metres to cm. It was great to see the kids enjoying themselves at Pumpkin Rolling. I was blown away by the creativity of the decorated pumpkins. It always amazes me on the size that some of the pumpkins grow to. What is the secret?? Many thanks to Shereen and Larissa who watched over our entrants in the Central Bay of Plenty Swimming Sports. Without your support we just wouldn’t be able to take advantage of all these extra opportunities. The kids obviously had a good time. Even though they were not placed, they are very proud of their achievements and came back to school with lots of stories to share. Well done Xanthus, Hunter, Eilidh, Aidan and Charlee. We are proud of you.
