Boys & Girls Entering Grades 7-12 Purpose: The purpose of this Summer Class is to grow and develop healthy individuals. Students who train will see benefits in their sport performance. However, I am most interested in producing healthy, well rounded student-athletes. This class will enhance your child's: knowledge of concepts relating to health-enhancing practices, mental health, physical skills (motor skills & movement patterns), and of course social health. It is a great achievement to dunk a basketball, smash a volleyball, PR in a 200, or run for a game winning touchdown, however training is grounded in embracing a physical and mental process. The achievements above, are just outcomes of a DAWG Mentality. Workouts: 1. Will never be longer than an hour. 2. Have three level progression of workouts: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced. a. Beginners will be focused on fundamental fitness components and motor skills. (Linear Periodization) b. Intermediate focuses on incorporating more dynamic movements, c. Advanced brings it all together. We follow a non-conjugate periodization that involves the following training components: Hypertrophy, Strength (Iso, Ecc, Con. Bands, etc.) Power, Prehabilitation, Plyometrics, some pilates, and some calisthenics. Aiming to increase the rate of force a muscle action can perform. This will only be used for individuals that are experienced in the weight training. 3. I am always available to talk about the workouts and what goes into the planning if you want to hear more. Benefits of Training (Not Sport-Based Outcomes): Please see JWP PE Website for more benefits and research relating to these topics. 1. You will build stronger bones. 2. You will enhance your mental health due to the neurochemicals released in your brain. This will help you focus, sleep better, increase your self-esteem, among other benefits 3. Helps prevent injuries by making connective tissue and muscles stronger. 4. Active kids are better learners. Exercise stimulates brain growth. 5. Helps to prevent many diseases. 6. You will see progress that is tangible. (Changes I can’t...to I CAN.) 7. Improves Body Composition. 8. Develops Fundamental Motor Skills. 9. Improves Social Health. 10. Exercise is the best drug. DAWG Mentality: D. Are you Disciplined enough to be Driven and Determined? A. Are you Accountable? Are you really ALL IN? W. Do you have enough Willpower to embrace the process? G. Be Genuine. Take pride in your school and the people in it! “Calculate an Attitude” DAWG
