O.C.M.S. Girls Softball Tryouts Perspective player timeline: Lady Braves Softball Try-outs: July 27, 28, & 29 from 3:30-5:00 pm at OVP. Lady Braves Softball Team Selection: (posted outside the OCMS GYM) July 29th by 10 pm Summer Workouts/Practice: Work hard and improve your skills! First Team Meeting and Practice: August 1st from 4:00-5:30 pm at OVP. First Parent Meeting: August 1st at 5:30.
Requirements to Try-out: Academically eligible Current physical turned into the OCMS Front Office
Note to perspective players and parents: The 2016 Softball Season will begin August 1st. This is the first official day we can practice for the fall season. If your child does not intend on attending every practice and game they should not try-out for the Lady Braves Softball Team. No player will be allowed to miss games or practices for any other reason than sickness or family emergency. Keep in mind that all family vacations, trips, birthday parties etc., must be scheduled around our practice and game schedule. Once your child has been selected as a member of the team, she will receive a detailed practice/game schedule and a player/parent handbook.
Tryout Schedule: Tryouts will be held at the OVP Softball Fields from 3:30-5:00 pm. Players will need to arrive at OVP before 3:30 to make sure they are ready to start on time. Players trying out should wear softball pants, cleats, socks, and t-shirt each day. Players should bring bats, helmets, gloves, and water each day.
Player Pick-up: Tryouts will conclude promptly at 5:00 pm. Players must be picked up at OVP at this time. Parents are welcome to watch tryouts from the bleachers, but will not be allowed by the dugouts, on the fence line, or around the field. Please do not attempt to “coach” your player during tryouts.
Playing Time: Players that are selected to the Lady Braves Softball team are NOT guaranteed any playing time. All playing time is EARNED. I will only guarantee that each player will be given every opportunity to improve their skills and be treated fairly. School sports are very competitive and the best players will be on the field. ***Tryout Tips and Selection Criteria on the back***
The selection of the teams will be based on the following criteria:
Tryout performance/speed (based on components)
Desire and responsibility
Aggressive team and individual play
“Coach-ability”
Athletic ability and natural coordination
Softball knowledge
Team needs
Components needed to make the Lady Brave Softball Team: The majority of the following skills should be mastered before trying out for the softball team. If a player does not demonstrate mastery of the following skills during the try-out process, they will not make the team. Please use the summer to master these skills! The following skills expected: Fundamentals: - Proper Throwing and Catching Mechanics - Hitting Ability (Power and average) - Bunting Ability (Every player will be asked to bunt) - Fielding Skills (infield, outfield, pitchers, catchers) Physically Conditioned - Speed - Endurance - Agile & Physical Base Running Skills
