Thank you to our 2016 Gala Judges: Barry Holben, VP Sales at Allen Organ Company; Nathan Eckhart, CFO, Martin Guitar; and Catherine DeBoeser, member of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
Congratulations to our high school senior Gala performers, Carolyn Boulay and Abigail Manwiller, who are both continuing their music studies at college in the fall - Carolyn at New York University, and Abigail at DeSales University. The family of former CMS Director, George R. Schermerhorn continues to support development of our faculty. This year's Schermerhorn Family Fund Award was presented to piano teacher, Dr. Holly Roadfeldt. She will create a Certificate of Musical Achievement Pilot Program to provide participating students additional motivation and a sense of accomplishment in their music studies. The pilot will focus on piano, with plans to communicate with other CMS teachers to expand to other instrumental areas in the future (strings, brass, winds, and voice).
Our 2015-2016 school year proved to be exciting and successful in so many ways. We welcomed many new and continuing students and faculty in both Reading and the Lehigh Valley. We launched our innovative Modern Band after-school program in Allentown public and charter schools. We also launched a new CMS website, an electronic newsletter platform, and expanded our financial aid program. We continued our popular Flutophone programs at several elementary schools, and hosted a very successful Spring Brunch fundraiser. Many generous donors, including individuals, businesses, and foundations continued their loyal support of CMS and our mission. We ended the year with impressive student recitals in Reading and Allentown, followed by an amazing Gala Recital with students from all locations. In short, CMS is as vibrant and dynamic as ever as we begin our 35th year in 20162017. I am very grateful for your charitable support that makes our good work possible. I look forward to another busy CMS summer season, including City Arts Camp (June 20-24), summer lessons (June 20 – August 25), and our student performances at Musikfest (August 8). As we end our year, two of our piano teachers, Ruth Maletz and Mary Schatkowski are retiring. I thank them for their many years of fine teaching at CMS, and I wish them well in retirement.

ASD Music Outreach
CMS continues to provide outreach programs in the Allentown School District, thanks to support of the Harry C. Trexler Trust and the Baker Foundation. This year, CMS and teachers, Cliff Tracy and Josh Klein brought the after-school Modern Band program (in partnership with Little Kids Rock) to McKinley Elementary and Roberto Clemente Charter School. Most recently, CMS teacher, Kate Uhler is leading the Page to Stage program at Casa Guadalupe for Harrison-Morton Middle School students, which integrates the Modern Band philosophy. Flutophone fun continues this summer with CMS teacher, Elaine Martin at Jefferson Elementary and the City Arts Camp. CMS teacher, Cliff Tracy, warms up on the ukulele
