Church Grounds Cemetery St Finian’s Church, Newcastle Policy Regarding Burial The burial grounds around the Catholic church of St Finian in Newcastle are of considerable antiquity. Over the course of the past two centuries, records of burial have not always been maintained to the standard expected today. Therefore, to avoid any possible disputes over interment in incorrect sites, and to prevent families incurring the high expenses involved in having to re-inter mortal remains, it has been decided by the Parish Priest and Council to restate clearly the current practice pertaining to possible interments, namely that: MORTAL REMAINS WILL ONLY BE BURIED IN THE GROUNDS OF ST. FINIAN’S CHURCH WHERE THE SITE IS CLEARLY IDENTIFIABLE BY HEADSTONE OR CROSS AND DELINEATED BY A SURROUNDING BORDER. Local Funeral Directors have been advised of this practice. We trust this will be of benefit to all concerned, ensuring that our loved ones may, indeed, rest in peace.
