Over 30 people thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Christ Church Cathedral on April 5th. We met up over coffee, were present for the 12 noon Peace Prayer, and then had an Historic tour. After lunch in the crypt, we had a tour of the Stained Glass and Icon of Holy Trinity and finished up the day with a short reflection, music and song. It will be possible to organise another day if sufficient people are interested. The date has yet to be decided. If interested, text or call Bridget Breen 086/1762532. National Vigil for Life Saturday 3rd May 2014, 3-4pm Merrion Square, Dublin 2
Eucharistic Adoration Holy Family Church Rathcoole Every Friday 7.30 – 8.30pm
The National Vigil For Life 2014 will take place in Merrion Square, Dublin 2 on 3rd May 2014 from 3-4pm The Fine Gael Party promised voters they would not legalise abortion. They broke that promise. The pro-life movement gave a commitment that it would not sit back and accept this new law. The National Vigil for Life on 3rd May is a clear sign that we will not be breaking our promise. On 3rd May, we will have an opportunity to show that, far from losing heart, we are more committed than ever. This is, truly, a moment in which we have to persevere for what is right. In introducing abortion the Government knew exactly what it was doing and that there was no medical or legal necessity for it. To volunteer your time and help or for more information, email

Sunday 27th April 2014 Divine Mercy Sunday St. Pope John XXIII St. Pope John Paul II Pray For Us
Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II was born Karol Józef Wojtyła on 18 May 1920 and died on 2 April 2005, was ordained in 1946 and was Pope from 16 October 1978 to his death in 2005. He was the second longest serving pope in history and, as a Pole, the first non-Italian since Pope Adrian V1, who died in 1523. John Paul II will be canonised on 27 April 2014. Karol Józef Wojtyła was born in the Polish town of Wadowice. He was the youngest of three children. His mother Emilia, who was a schoolteacher, died in childbirth in 1929 when Wojtyła was eight years old. His elder sister Olga had died before his birth, but he was close to his brother Edmund, nicknamed Mundek, who was 13 years his senior. Edmund's work as a physician eventually led to his death from scarlet fever, a loss which affected Wojtyła deeply. In mid-1938, Wojtyła and his father left Wadowice and moved to Kraków, where he enrolled at Jagiellonian University. He performed with various theatrical groups and worked as a playwright and during this time, his talent for language blossomed, and he learned as many as 12 foreign languages, nine of which he used extensively as pope. In 1939, Nazi German occupation forces closed the university after invading Poland and so from 1940 to 1944 Wojtyła variously worked as a messenger for a restaurant, a manual labourer in a limestone quarry and for a chemical factory, to avoid deportation to Germany. His father, a former Austro-Hungarian died of a heart attack in 1941 leaving Wojtyła as the immediate family's only surviving member. Wanting to become a priest, John Paul began studying at a secret seminary run by the archbishop of Krakow. After World War II ended, he finished his religious studies at a Krakow seminary and was ordained in 1946. John Paul spent two years in Rome and then in 1948 returned to Poland to serve in various parishes around Krakow. He became bishop of Ombi in 1958 and archbishop of Krakow six years later. He was made cardinal in 1967 by Pope Paul VI. In 1978, John Paul made history by becoming the first non-Italian pope in more than four hundred years. As the leader of the Catholic Church, he travelled the world, visiting more than 100 countries to spread his message of faith and peace. He was a charismatic figure and a vocal advocate for human rights. Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII will be canonised on April 27, 2014. The announcement of Pope John Paul II's canonisation came after the Vatican revealed that two miracles were attributed to the late pope. After a dying French nun, Sister Marie Simon-Pierre Normand, prayed to Pope John Paul II during her battle with Parkinson's disease—the same illness that killed the pope—she was cured. The second miracle involved a 50-year-old woman, who claimed that she was cured of a brain aneurysm after a photograph of Pope John Paul II spoke to her.
