Pope Francis Prayer Intentions—April 2014 Please pray for the Holy Father’s prayer intentions for the month of April: Ecology and Justice: That governments may foster the protection of creation and the just distribution of natural resources. Hope for the Sick: That the Risen Lord may fill with hope the hearts of those who are being tested by pain and sickness. Theology Distance Learning Course The Office for Evangelisation & Ecumenism will co-ordinate the Spring Catholic Distance Learning Course in conjunction with Catholic Distance University (USA). It’s ideal for anyone who wants to reflect on how their faith connects with their daily lives. A key aim of the Distance Learning Course is to encourage Catholics in active participation in and co– responsibility for evangelisation and faith development within Parishes and Chaplaincies and can easily fit into a persons’ busy lifestyle as they log on at home or wherever suits. Registration is now open and the deadline is the 11th April. More information: www.evangelisation.ie/2014/03/10/catholicdistance-learning-spring-2014 Tel: 01-8373732 ext. 244 Email: [email protected] Some Words of Pope Francis Living our Baptism to the full also means not accustoming ourselves to the situations of degradation and misery. There is a risk of not being shocked by the sad reality surrounding us. We become accustomed to violence. We become accustomed to brothers and sisters sleeping on the streets. We become accustomed to refugees seeking freedom and dignity, who are not received as they ought to be. We become accustomed to living in a society which thinks it can do without God, in which parents no longer teach their children to pray or to make the sign of the Cross. I ask you: do your children, do your little ones know how to make the sign of the Cross? Think about it. Do your grandchildren know how to make the sign of the Cross? Have you taught them? Do they know how to pray the “Our Father”? Do they know how to pray to Our Lady with the “Hail Mary”? Growing accustomed to un-Christian and convenient behaviour narcotises the heart!
