Donate to Philippines Relief Over the weekend, a powerful typhoon struck the Philippines, killing thousands and affecting the lives of millions of people. The storm destroyed many buildings, including much of the infrastructure for bringing emergency supplies to affected areas. ECR’s Community Outreach Team and World Bank Group-IMF Filipino Staff Association (WBIFA) have worked on ways World Bank Group staff can best support the recovery and reconstruction effort. We are also helping the Manila office to organize its own disaster relief drive.

How to help? Donate through the Community Connections Campaign (CCC) As many of you know, we worked with the WBIFA to quickly provide some CCC options to support those affected by the typhoon: Feed the Hungry, St. Charles Borromeo Philippine Medical Mission and CARE. These NGOs have committed to use 50% of CCC contributions they receive solely on reconstruction and recovery efforts in the Philippines. Typically, all funds received through CCC’s annual campaign go towards supporting the organizations’ overall costs. Because these special funds will be disbursed throughout the 2014 calendar year, they will support the longer-term recovery work. The CCC runs until December 31, 2013, and the World Bank Group guarantees a 50% match on every pledge made. If 55% of staff pledge on EGive, the World Bank Group will match every donation 100%. Donate through a traditional disaster relief drive starting November 21

In response to requests, a traditional disaster relief drive will begin next week. 100% of these donations will go to Philippine typhoon relief. Funds raised through this drive will reach the NGOs sooner than the CCC-pledged funds. The drive will run through EGive from November 21 to December 6, 2013. Pledges to this drive are eligible for a 100% match (since 10% of the country’s population was affected), provided the staff participation threshold for disaster relief drives is met.
