Minot Public Schools School - Parent Compact
2015-2016 The Minot Public School District and the parents/guardians of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I agree that this compact outlines how they will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
School Responsibilities The Minot Public Schools, including your local school, will: 1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows: *Research-based curriculum *Highly qualified staff. 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, these conferences will be held: *Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held during the first and third nine-week grading periods *Title I Progress Reports will be sent home during the second and fourth nine-week grading periods *Additional conferences when requested. 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: *Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held during the first and third nine-week grading periods at which time Title I Progress Reports will be shared *Title I Progress Reports sent home during the second and fourth nine-week grading periods *Assessment data will be sent home periodically *Phone contacts. 4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: *Parent/Teacher conferences *Open House opportunities *Contact information will be provided via newsletters and websites. Teachers can be contacted before/after school, through phone contact, e-mail, or by appointment. 5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: *‘‘Sit-in’’ sessions - Invitation to parents to observe or participate in their child’s Title I lesson *District-wide Title I Parent Advisory Council *Open invitations to visit the Title I classroom Teacher Signature: __________________________________________________ Date: ____________
Parent Responsibilities We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways: *Communicate regularly with my child’s teachers *Monitor attendance *Set aside time to talk to my child about school and make sure homework is complete *Read with my child and let my child see me read *Volunteer in my child’s classroom *Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education *Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time *Serve, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as being the Title I parent representative on the Title I Parent Advisory Council *Structure eating and sleeping routines to make sure my child is ready to learn.

Student Responsibilities As a student, if I am going to experience success in school, I must work to the best of my ability, and strive to do the following:
*Work as hard as I can to do my best in class and on my assignments *Discuss what I am learning in school *Ask my teacher questions when I don’t understand something *Respect and cooperate with other students and adults *Set regular study hours.
