Implementation Resources and Tools for the MTT December 2010 Distribution of DVRNA, Scoring Sheet and other Clinical Assessment Instruments The Domestic Violence Risk and Needs Assessment Instrument (DVRNA) is a clinical assessment instrument. General clinical practice indicates that specific training, education and experience are required for scoring and interpreting findings of clinical assessment instruments. The role of the clinician is to gather the required information for scoring the instrument, make interpretations and report on the findings from that assessment instrument. Therefore, the DVRNA Scoring Sheet, as with other clinical instruments, is not intended to be distributed in its raw scored form. It is the role of the DV Provider to gather all the information necessary and to score the DVRNA. Training on scoring the DVRNA is offered quarterly through the DVOMB. When reporting on the findings from the DVRNA, DVOMB Providers shall report on the: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Resulting recommended level placement in treatment along with The total number score, Any Significant Risk Factors, Any Critical Risk Factors and The specific risk factors that were scored, such as Domain A.1 : Prior domestic violence related incidents - Prior domestic violence conviction.
The MTT may review the findings from the DVRNA and have further discussion regarding missing information and/or information used in scoring to ensure accuracy of the scoring. However, the MTT does not override the score of the DVRNA but the MTT can override (in very rare circumstances which need to be documented) the findings of the DVRNA. Please note that the DVRNA Scoring Form does NOT require the signature of each team member. The form does require that the DVOMB Provider provide verification that each MTT member provided input and that the MTT reached consensus for the placement in treatment. These standards of reporting are similar to the Spousal Assault Risk Assessment (SARA) instrument.
