DHSEM Update ~ February 19, 2015 Information and Updates 2015 Colorado Emergency Management Conference The Integrated Colorado Emergency Management Conference is next week from February 24-26, 2015 in Denver. The conference agenda is posted on the CEMA website or available here. The location has changed this year to the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center at 7800 East Tufts Avenue, Denver, Colorado. The conference registration period is now closed.

DHSEM Update

FEMA Reminder: March 6 Deadline for SAFER Grants FEMA announced the opening of the Fiscal Year 2014 (FY14) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) application, which will close on March 6, 2015 at 5 p.m. ET. The SAFER grant program comprises of two categories: hiring of firefighters; and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. To receive a SAFER grant award, applicants must be registered and have up-to-date information in the online System for Award Management. Registration is required of all Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program applicants and awardees.

Educational Resources Community Awareness Program Training Participate in the Community Awareness Program at The CELL. It is an interactive public safety training that provides individuals with the tools to recognize suspicious activity and enhance their community’s safety. The training is Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 6 – 8 p.m. at 99 W. 12th Avenue, Denver, Colorado. The cost is $5. Online registration required.

Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is May 2, 2015 This year’s national Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is Saturday, May 2, 2015. To assist in local projects being implemented, sixty-five $500 project funding awards will be provided through generous support from State Farm. The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 5, at 11:59pm ET - the short application is easy to complete and only takes a few minutes. Details are available in Fire Break and on WildfirePrepDay.org. A wide-range of free materials can be accessed on the site’s Resources Page. Available options include: flyers, postcards, logos, web and email banners and Facebook/Twitter profile photo images. Flyers and postcards are available in multiple formats including a customizable version for local events/projects. Attached is a pdf of the flyer for easy sharing. Add the web banner to your site and encourage projects and participation. Last year, activities were completed by individuals, neighborhoods and community groups working to reduce their wildfire risk and make their communities a safer place to live. DHSEM Update

April Region VIII Regional Interagency Steering Committee Meeting Information The Region VIII Spring Regional Interagency Steering Committee (RISC) meeting will be held on April 2, 2015 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, Colorado. Register for the meeting at https://colorado.feb.gov/register/?ee=268 . Onsite check in and registration should begin at 7:15 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Our focus will be on CBRNE and HAZMAT and presentations will include case studies on the 2013 West Texas Fertilizer Explosion and the Casselton Train Derailment. A preliminary draft of the agenda is attached. It should be a full day with very valuable information for responders, emergency managers and community leaders.

Colorado Dam Safety Article The Colorado Dam Safety group recently wrote an article for the Journal of Dam Safety focused on the emergency management coordination efforts before, during and after the September 2013 floods. The Colorado Dam Safety group will also have a booth and next week’s Integrated Colorado Emergency Management Conference and they invite all attendees to stop by their booth.

Colorado Wildfire Mitigation Conference is September 24-26, 2015 Colorado Wildfire Mitigation Conference, planners and sponsors are pleased to announce the 2015 Colorado Wildland Fire Conference: Creating Fire Adapted Communities! The conference will be held on September 24-26, 2015 at Viceroy Snowmass, Snowmass Village, Colo. This year's conference is designed to provide a framework for becoming a Fire Adapted Community. Anyone wishing to learn more about how they can influence their community's vulnerability to wildfire is welcome to attend. The conference will provide a variety of educational tracks tailored to real-estate agents, developers, professional planners, insurance industry representatives, community leaders, contractors, as well as firefighters and emergency service professionals, but anyone is welcome to attend! Registration is under development, but for more information about the conference please visit www.wildfire-colorado.com. The conference committee is currently conducting a Call for Speakers. Proposals should be submitted before May 1.

Training Information Training and Exercise Planning Workshop Just a reminder that the statewide Training and Exercise Planning Workshop (TEPW) will take place on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Denver. It will take place the day before the annual Colorado Integrated Emergency Management Conference and at the same location.
