Developing a Community Response for High-Risk Victims of Child Sex Trafficking and Exploitation Aug 28-29, 2018 | Franklin, WI

August 28, 2018 8:00 AM - 8:15 AM Welcome and Introductions 8:15 AM - 10:15 AM Understanding Dynamics This module will define the High Risk Victim and demonstrate the correlation and commonalities between the chronic runaway, repeat victims of sexual abuse, and the child victimized through sex trafficking. Also provided in this module will be the profile of victim, the trafficker, and the techniques used to recruit and control the victim in sex trafficking.

10:15 AM - 12:15 PM Quantifying the Problem Locally This module will provide participants with information on how to individually, as a unit/squad, or collectively as a community, identify and understand the problem of sex trafficking locally. Techniques to identify system challenges to effective response, as well as solutions to those challenges will be provided. Roles and responsibilities of system stakeholders will be reviewed and techniques to develop a working protocol will be provided.

12:15 PM - 1:15 PM Lunch (on own) 1:15 PM - 5:00 PM Interviewing Techniques for Recovered Victims Participants will be provided with information regarding the unique dynamics and challenges surrounding interviewing of the High Risk Victim, and the barriers that prevent victims’ full and complete disclosure of abuse and exploitation. Participants will be shown steps to ensure the highest potential for a successful High Risk Victim Interview.

August 29, 2018 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Community Response and Implementation: Continuum of Response Approach Participants will be provided with a proven a three-point strategic approach to combat child sex trafficking in their community. The three-point strategic approach includes: 1) Prevention; 2) Protection; and 3) Prosecution, focusing on community awareness, screening high risk youth, and service coordination for victims. Participants will be provided with tools to conduct an assessment of their community’s response to identifies priority areas for an effective community’s response, which will be based a flexible strategic plan. Tailored to the community’s current resources and strengths, the objective of this training module is to enable participants to increase the capacity of their community by establishing new, ongoing interagency arrangements, procedures, protocols, or policies. Tools, sample projects, and lessons learned in other communities are shared.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Lunch (on own) 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM Reality Based Training - Interactive Case Study The reality Based Training, Interactive Workshop, is intended to provide the participant the opportunity to apply new information learned, or to share their experience with other members of the group, or class. This workshop will demonstrate and reinforce the need to understand the roles and responsibilities of each team member from victim recovery, successful completion of investigation, and placement/services for the victim.
