Rethink Your Bedroom Placement  When  it  comes  to  getting  sound  sleep,  careful  positioning  is  half  the  work.  For  instance, a bed  facing  the  door  or  the  windows  is  a  bad  idea,  since  natural  and  artificial  light  sources  will

constantly  annoy  you.  To  deal  with  this,  ​position  your bed against an interior wall in a way that  doesn’t  face  any  doors  or  windows.  This  will  give  you  a  sense  of  stability  and  will  ensure  that  even the brightest street lights or the crimson sunrise will no longer disturb your dreams.    Another  common  error  that  leads  to  restless  sleep  is  placing  your  nightstand  a  few  meters  away  from  your  bed.  This  can  quickly  become  a  problem,  especially  if  you  have  the  habit  of  sleeping  with  a  glass  of  water nearby. The solution – pick a nightstand that matches your bed’s  height  and  keep  it  within  arm’s  reach.  Also,  if  you  have  a  working  desk  in  your  bedroom,  consider  removing  it  as  it  may  serve  you  as  a  constant  reminder  of  all the work that still needs  doing. 

Make No Room for Clutter  Clutter  is all around us on a daily basis, which is why we should do our best to keep it out of our  bedrooms.  This  includes  dealing  with  open  drawers,  picking  up  clothes  from  the  ground,  reorganizing  overflowing  wardrobes, and even removing items from under your bed. In general,  the golden rule is to keep only things that either help you relax or can set a romantic mood.    This  means  that  bright  visual  stimuli  (TVs,  digital  alarm  clocks,  gaming  consoles,  mirrors,  etc.)  should  also  be  kicked  out  of  your  bedroom  as  they  will  quickly  disturb  your  natural  circadian  rhythm.  Once  you  eliminate  all  items  in  your  room  that  serve  no  practical  purpose,  you  will  be  left with a neatly ordered bedroom that allows your mind to quickly slip into a state of sleep. 

Tone Down the Lighting  The  ​perfect  bedroom  should  remain  dark  enough  so  that  you  can  relax  and  bright  enough  so  that  you  can  be  aware  of  your  surroundings.  There  are  a  few  ways to achieve this type of soft,  ambient  lighting.  For  instance,  you  can  install  dimmer  switches,  which you can use to precisely  control the amount of light that your room receives. Here are a few other ideas to consider:    ● Equip your curtains with blackout liners to block any exterior light sources.  ● Use lights with low wattages (50 and below) to allow your mind to fully unwind.  ● Wall-mount a dimmer lamp next to your bed for a more pleasant reading experience.

Find the Perfect Temperature  Ideally,  your  bedroom’s  temperature  should  be hovering at about 65°F pretty much all the time.  Anything  hotter  or  colder  than  this  can  lead  to  the dreaded waking-up-at-four-in-the-morning  syndrome.  This  can  be  easily  avoided  with  the  right  amount  of  blankets  or  by  ​installing  a  programmable  thermostat  inside  your  bedroom  (no  bright LEDs, please). You can also keep the  summer heat at bay and simultaneously make your room more stylish by installing a ceiling fan. 

Paint Your Bedroom in Soothing Colors  Choosing  the  right  colors  for  your  small  dream  palace  is  crucial for the quality of sleep you get.  Avoid  using  purple,  red,  gold  or  other  rich  hues  as  they  are  visually  stimulating  and  will  kick  your  brain  into  overdrive,  which  is  exactly the opposite of what you need to fall asleep. Instead,  opt  for  more  muted  and  soothing  colors,  such  as  warm  shades  of  yellow,  beige  and  peach  or  cooler  ones  like  blue  and  green.  Once  you’re  done  with  your  small  painting  project,  your  walls  will not only make your room more comfortable, but also create the illusion of a bigger space! 

Drown Out All Undesired Noises  We’ve all been there – you’re just about to enter Dreamland when, suddenly, the sounds of loud  car  horns  or  the  tools  of  the  construction  workers  across  the  street  crudely  pull  you  back  into  reality. Fortunately, you have many options when it comes to muffling undesired noises:    ● Purchase noise reduction windows. It’s essentially a screen that you place on top of your  outside window, which will eliminate all traffic noise and other outside ruckus.  ● Use  plush rugs and cushions. Besides making your bed extra cozy, these small additions  to your bedroom will also absorb all noises coming your way.  ● Upholster  the  wall  behind  your bed. Placing fabric wall panels on your wall is perfect for  muffling noises made by noisy neighbors.
