On January 9-10, 2015, the Area 3 VOA hosted their annual Area 3 Venturing Conference in Bloomington, IL. Over 100 Scouts, Scouters, and Professionals joined together for a weekend of learning and sharing ideas. Topics some of the many classes covered included the Venturing program and award changes, high adventure bases, and how to put the wow into your unit’s program. The Area 3 VOA taught an ILSC, a Kodiak CDC, and position specific trainings throughout the weekend as well.

Scouting and learning in Okemos, Michigan. The Area 2 Venturing Conference brought both new and long standing Venturers together to talk about topics ranging from event planning, leadership skills and of course, the new awards system. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us last year and we are looking forward to a great conference this year! -Erin Dunne, CR Area 2 Vice President of Program

On April 10-12, sixty-five Venturers from all over Area 5 gathered together for the biggest 'Fun Event' Area 5 had ever hosted. At Venturing Safari, participants got to go to the Omaha Zoo, where they got to participate in a scavenger hunt, the Old Market, where they got to experience Omaha's history and shopping, and back at camp for an award ceremony. Overall, Venturing Safari was a blast, and everyone left with some new Venturing friends. -Ramin Rostampour, 2014-15 CR Area 5 Venturing President

I had some amazing experiences as Area 7 Venturing President! The last event that I had the pleasure of hosting was the Area 7 Venturing Conference on March 7, 2015 in Lake Geneva Wisconsin at the Grand Geneva Resort! It was a day full of important information and fun activities! We had amazing courses from the (at the time new) changes to Venturing, awards, trainings available, upcoming events, teambuilding, and even networking! We started the day with a fun photo booth and concluded the day with an awesome STEM activity where Venturers had to build their own mini cannons and launch mini marshmallows! The 2014-2015 Area 7 Venturing Officers Association worked endlessly to put on that event for over 80 amazing Venturers! I had the rare and amazing experience of serving as the Area 7 Venturing President for not only one term, but two! I could not have thought of a better way to end my term as president than the 2015 Area 7 Venturing Conference. -Katlin Adams, 2013-15 CR Area 7 Venturing President

Over 100 youth and adults from all across the Central Region gathered for the annual Central Region Venturing Officers' Orientation at Lindenwood University in June. The weekend was spent playing teambuilding games, planning for the upcoming year, learning how to be an officer in the Central Region, making new friends, and building a mission and vision for Venturing in the Central Region for the 20152016 term. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend of learning, hard work, and of course, a lot of fun, too! -Emily Mausshardt, Central Region Venturing President Emeritus

Area 4 WorldFest: Dive into an event full of Native American dancing, Civil War reenactors, shooting sports, climbing, and much, much more. With over 350 individuals in attendance, WorldFest offered an opportunity to join Venturers all across Area 4 and more. Flocking to Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, WorldFest served as an excellent event to share ideas and socialize with other Venturers in the Central Region. In addition to fantastic food, WorldFest offered great venues along with themed programming and training opportunities. Make sure to join us next year for WorldFest 2016: Pirates of the Seven Ranges on April 22-24th, 2016! -Nate Steele, Central Region Venturing Vice President of Administration

The National Venturing Cabinet Orientation that took place in Irving, TX during the weekend of June 26th was a huge milestone for Venturing in 2015. Our National Venturing President, National Venturing Vice President and the four Region Venturing Presidents gathered to discuss their plans as a whole for the 2015-2016 term and beyond. Not only did the cabinet members have the opportunity to meet and interact with various departments at the National Service Center of the Boy Scouts of America, but had quality time to brainstorm ways to improve Venturing with our new Chief Scout Executive, Mike Surbaugh. After a weekend of bonding, learning and an overall great time, members of the National Venturing Cabinet have been focusing on Council VOAs, educating our officers, promoting the Venturing brand, being top notch ambassadors of the program, and serving together as a united cabinet throughout the remainder of the term. -Edward Abraham, National Venturing President

NOAC, World Jamboree in Japan, All About Venturing at the Philmont Training Center, and #SummerofVenturing day online, were just a few more adventures that took place during the summer!

The Star Wars themed Fall Fun Rally was a huge success this year with over a thousand people in attendance. The weather was great and the participants enjoyed activities such as casino night, mud cave, massive inflatables, a full size scuba tank, and much more! Planning has already started for next years Fall Fun Rally: September 23-25, 2016 -Chris Mausshardt, CR Area 3 Venturing President

Venturing Halloweekend was a hit! We had a great time shooting rifle, pistol, and shotgun. We also got to meet each other through some amazing games such as Hungry Hungry Hippos and an awesome Scavenger Hunt. We ended the weekend with an amazing costume party on Saturday. -Amber Richter, CR Area 6 Venturing President The 2015 Area 7 Extravaganza was a wonderful event with over a hundred in attendance! Participants had a super day of shooting, high ropes/COPE, gaga ball, and inflatable jousting. Thanks to everyone who came out and had a great day with us! -Kaia Ball, CR Area 7 Venturing President The 2015 Area 1 Leadership Conference was a huge success! With our attendance numbers raised from last year, our break out sessions with Youth Protection and Project Management trainings, everything went smoothly. We even had American Sign Language beak out sessions. With many requirements being signed off we also had fun: A scavenger hunt around the hotel and an adventure to the Menomonie Museum! -Kimberlee Horbal, CR Area 1 Venturing Vice President of Program

The 2015 Area 5 Venturing Leadership Conference was a blast! There were a total of 67 participants at the conference. There were youth taking part in all the courses, from ILSC, LNT, and C.O.P.E, to the trainings for awards. The adults took part in courses as well, a few being Kodiak Director, Powder Horn CDC, and Adviser Specific Training. Ramin Rostampour, the 2014-15 Area 5 Venturing President was also awarded his Area VLA for his service and great work last term! -Russell Seibert, CR Area 5 Venturing President

Advisor’s Minute Central Region, Winter is finally here! Some people might read this and be asking themselves, “Is he nuts? He is excited about winter?” True, winter does bring those lessthan-desirable temperatures, and many challenges while traveling. But, it also brings people together for the holidays and special events, makes eating soup/drinking hot chocolate fun, and who doesn’t like building a snow fort? As we near the end of another amazing year, it is time for some reflection and an opportunity to set goals for 2016. Recently, we talked about inspiring someone, and helping to light the fire within for Venturing, as someone once did for each of us. This month, let’s flip the focus. Someone once said, “Be the change you wish to see.” (Now, if you believe everything on the internet, this quote was said by a plethora of people, and maybe even Gandhi.) But, let’s look at this statement. What does it say to you? For me, it says to lead by example.

Leading by example is a pretty tall order. Not only do we have to have a vision that we believe in, but we actually be willing to put in the work to make it happen. Basically, we need to “walk the talk.” And then, as others join us on the journey, we need to be able to help encourage and support them to do the same. Whether we want to put together an amazing superactivity, recruit more members, strengthen our VOAs, or just have more fun in this amazing program we are a part of, I know we can lead the change we want to see. Once again, thank you for all that you do, because we wouldn’t be here without you. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to wish each of you and your families a very wonderful holiday season (no matter what you celebrate), and a very happy and opportunity-filled new year! In Venturing,

Kris Zahrobsky

President’s Corner Happy Holidays, Central Region! What a great time of year it is. Even though the days are getting shorter and shorter, our neighborhoods, streets, and shopping malls are starting to light up with holiday cheer. The malls are getting busier, and we are entering the bliss of the season. Many of you also are craving for the last day of school so you have a couple of weeks off. And, did I mention Santa Claus is on his way? This is an exciting time of the year, and it is also the end of the year, which means this is a chance for us all to think about the joys and challenges of 2015. We had an amazing year in the Central Region- the largest region Venturing conference ever, area events had record attendance, and we saw a couple youth earn the Venturing Summit Award! But, I want to take a minute to discuss a real world issue: Racism. As Venturers and Scouts, we have strong values. We strive to live the Scout Oath and Law in our daily lives. Right now, it seems as though America is turning a blind eye to the racism. Syrian refugees are living in a terrorist state in the Middle East, controlled by ISIS and other extremist groups, with additional violence from US and Russian forces. Yet, our country is debating whether or not it is safe to take these refugees into our country. Others believe that we can save them, only if they follow a certain religion. In our own country, systemic racism is affecting all of us. Movements have begun to try to combat the racism, but true progress isn’t being made. It is our job as Venturers, as Scouts, and as people to stop accepting the status quo. It is our job to help other people at all times. It is our job to be helpful, friendly, and kind to all people. We can make a change. Together. Wishing you all the best this holiday season,

Brian Parro
