Danville High School Athletic Hall of Fame By-Laws •

Mission Statement The Danville High School Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes and honors outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, teams and others who have made significant contributions to the athletic program and have promoted the growth of the athletics at Danville High School.

Committee Membership The Hall of Fame committee shall include the following members: a. b. c. d. e.

Athletic Director – Chairman Principal or designee Superintendent or designee 2 Coaches 2 Community Members

The existing Hall of Fame Committee will accept applications and make decisions regarding new members to fill vacant committee positions. •

Categories for Nomination 1. Athlete – Any Danville High School graduate who distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics during his/her tenure as a student at Danville High School. Criteria consideration should include All-State recognition, All-American recognition, and/or professional selection. Good citizenship and academic performance during high school and past high school will be a consideration. Although athletic achievement while attending Danville High School is of prime importance, outstanding accomplishments after leaving Danville High School may also be considered. Nominees for the Danville High School Athletic Hall of Fame will have graduated five or more years ago. 2.

Coach – Any coach with at least seven years of coaching at Danville High School. Criteria consideration should be based on competence, leadership and accomplishment that merit local and/or statewide recognition, as well as significant contribution to the athletic program at Danville High School. Nominees for the Danville High School Athletic Hall of Fame will have retired from coaching for five or more years.

3. Contributors – Any individual who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs at Danville High School other than coaching or playing may be considered.

4. Team – Outstanding achievement by a particular team or group while representing Danville High School. Induction in the category could include, but not limited to teams who were the state tournament qualifiers in IHSAA or IGHSAU. A five -year waiting period from the time the trophy was earned would be imposed before a team or group would be considered for induction in the Danville High School Hall of Fame.

Nomination Process All nominations are open to the public. Nomination forms are available on the Danville Community Schools website and the High School Office at Danville High School. Once a nomination is made that person is forever nominated. For consideration to any given induction class, nominations need to be made prior to the first meeting date of the Danville High School Hall of Fame committee. Nominations received after the initial meeting date for a given year will not be considered until the following year. Each year the Hall of Fame committee meets to review past nominations and considers any new nominations made since the last induction class. After open discussions about candidates, a vote will be conducted for the purpose of choosing inductees. Each committee member shall rank candidates in order of desired induction preference, with the top candidate receiving the lower number of points. The voting of the committee will be confidential. Inductees will be announced at a pre-determined time following the final selection process and after the individuals have been contacted and indicated that they will be present or represented at the induction ceremony.

Induction Ceremony The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony shall be held each year as determined by the committee. Ceremonies shall be held at Danville High School on a date and venue to be determined by the committee.

Awards A plaque will be awarded to honor each inductee. A picture of the individual or team will be placed on display in the area designated by the Hall of Fame Committee.
