Tuesday, June 09, 2015 General Security Assessment: The general security situation remained relatively calm for the last 24 hrs except in Maridi, WES where UN movements along Maridi road was temporarily suspended due to insecurity. In Upper Nile State, shelling and shooting continued in the vicinity of Malakal Airport.

Description member’s accommodation in UN House, Juba. The suspect/s entered from the window of the balcony by tearing-up the mosquito net, they fled the scene when staff members shouted and later called the TOC. As a result, four (04) chairs, boots and sandals were stolen. UN Security responded to the scene, investigation is ongoing.

On 08 June 2015 at about 01:25 hrs, UNPOL/FPU officers received three (03) new male IDPs from Koch County. During the screening process, one (01) AK-47 magazine with 12 ammunitions and a Motorola radio was found among the possessions of one IDP; a male, 30yrs old. The male IDP resisted the UNPOL action to confiscate the items and was apprehended and detained for further assessment while the other two (02) male IDPs were allowed access into the PoC site. The items were seized from the suspect by UNPOL.

On 08 June 2015 between 14:00-18:00 hrs, shelling and intermittent machine gun fire was heard from the UNMISS base in the direction of the vicinity of Malakal airport. Two (02) shells are reported by the crew of a UN Agency chartered cargo aircraft to have landed 20m and the other 30m from the ramp. The aircraft, an AN12 type cargo is reported to sustained five (05) holes, two (02) of which are said to be on the right engine cover. The captain stated that despite the holes, he had not yet observed any leakages and therefore would try and run the engines the following day. During the shelling, the crew were extracted from the airport for safety to the UNMISS compound where they stayed overnight. All UN staff members and porters are safe and had to return to complete off-loading after the shooting had subsided for a while. On 07 June 2015 at about 03:00 hrs, a group of armed men tried to rob KCB in Wau Town. They were pursued by SSNPS and an exchange of gunfire ensued near Wau University. The perpetrators managed to flee the scene. SSNPS are investigating.
