Consultant: The University Hospital of Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany, Dept. of Pediatrics, The Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit o With 2 further consultants and a chief consultant responsible for the medical supply of very critical ill patients in an 18-bed ward with maximum equipment for intensive care therapy for pediatric patients and the medical primary care of the delivery unit of the University Hospital o Substituted the chief consultant of the ICU in his absence in all interests of the medical and organisational problems of this department o Supervision of 12 rotating and shift-working house officers and registrars on the ICU. Responsible for their technical guidance and training o Confidential co-operation with consultants from other specialities (pediatric surgery, heart surgery, neurosurgery, traumatology, transplant team, dialysis team and others) in the context of the common support of the patients of the ICU. Development of new treatment strategies for various medical and technical problems and collaborated in research activities with upper physicians in these teams. o Due to special technical expert knowledge charged with all concerns of medical-technical instruments and machines (selection, purchase, maintenance, training and briefings for physicians and nursing personnel) o Installed and developed a new computer assisted therapy schedule system for the ICU. o Covered all units by rotation and handled all pediatric problems with a special long run on the ICU as favourite subject. Accomplished the medical primary care of preterms and newborns of 13 delivery units in the surrounding area with the special baby-ambulance and helicopter. Transported very critical ill heart patients under full intensive care therapy conditions to various German heart surgery centres o Performed CAVH on a preterm infant, which was premier on this ICU and presented at a later date in a symposium. Established more invasive monitoring procedures - also new for this ICU – as well as totally new innovative therapy and monitoring schedule forms for the ICU, favoured by the chief consultant o Supervision and training of Junior House Officers
