Creation Science Specimen Paper 2008 FUNDAMENTALS OF CREATION SCIENCE

Attempt one question from each of the 3 sections. Answer on lined paper, write on both sides. Do not place your written script face-down if it contains Holy Scripture. Answers should be tied in a single bundle and bound to the cover sheet. Do not write your name on the cover sheet, but include your religion, denomination and sub-denomination. This exam contains 6 questions and will last 3 hours. The approximate distribution of marks is given next to each part of the question. Each question is worth 20 marks. This exam is accompanied by Holy Texts which you may from quote without proof.

The contents of this rubric are not open to religious interpretation.

You may not start to read questions printed on the subsequent pages of this question paper until instructed that you may do so by the Invigilator.

May the force be with you.

The Big Bang Theory

1. Some scientists believe that the universe was created by an explosion. This idea is known as the Big Bang Theory. The scientists claim to have evidence which supports this, thus contradicting the views expressed by your religion. (a) Use ambiguous terminology to show that something cannot come from nothing. Use an analogy such as a grenade or land-mine to represent the scientist’s views. Hence show that the Big Bang Theory must logically be incorrect.

[10]

(b) Use Occam’s razor to show that the Universe was not created by a complex explosion, but instead by a God1 .

[5]

(c) Answer one of the following with reference to Figure 1: i. Explain how an omnipotent Creator could create a cosmic background signal that matches the theoretical prediction made by scientists. You should include other examples of The Creator tricking scientists into believing something which is obviously false. ii. Explain how Satan2 has possessed scientists and has created theories which exactly match the observed data.

[5]

Figure 1: Graph showing the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation as measured by the COBE satellite. Error bars are too small to be shown. Solid line is the theoretical prediction.

2. The Big Bang Theory suggests that the age of the universe is approximately 14,000,000,000 years old. This is clearly wrong if compared to religious texts. (a) Calculate the age of the universe based on your interpretation of your religious texts. Show your working but do not include errors or assumptions you have made.

[6]

(b) Albert Einstein, the celebrated Christian scientist, first coined the term Λ with reference to the workings of the universe. In his footsteps, calculate the “cosmological error” Λ sci , Λ = AAHoly

[3]

where Asci is the age assigned to the universe by scientists (i.e. 14 billion years) and AHoly is the age calculated by you in the previous part of this question. (c) Using Λ, and with reference3 to Figure 2, calculate the length of the average nose if you were to be as wrong as scientists are about the age of the universe.

[3]

Figure 2: The average length of the human nose is 2cm.

(d) Write a paragraph (200 words) explaining the previous argument to a 4 year old . Your answer should include a description of the consequences of not believing this.

3

Since the Figure shows a woman’s nose, we advise Islamic students not to look at

it.

B

The Theory of Evolution

3. The theory of evolution is a controversial one in the scientific community. Nevertheless it is important for a Creation Science student to be familiar with its claims so that he may refute them easily. (a) Neo-Darwinism is based on the older system of Darwinism dreamt up by Charles Darwin. i. Write a account of Darwin’s deathbed conversion to Christianity suitable for publication on the Internet. ii. Ignoring your work on the previous part of the question, show that Darwin was actually a Christian for his entire life. iii. Using quotes from the book “On the Origins of the On Species”, show that Darwin did not actually believe what he wrote. Suggest reasons for him writing the book.

[8]

(b) Explain how the following disprove evolution: i. Decreasing entropy ii. Richard Dawkins’ inability and refusal to answer a question on information content iii. Our inability to communicate with monkeys iv. Tornado, junkyard, 747 analogy

[8]

(c) Evolution is God. Do you agree? Write an essay expressing your religion’s point of view. Explain what makes your view important and give reasons why scientists should change the theory of evolution to accommodate it.

[4]

4. Evolution has never been observed and like most of science, is still just a “theory”. The key to evolution’s continued presence in the scientific community is the indoctrination of young children who are confused and brain-washed by the liberal scientists. (a) Explain how your parents’ beliefs affect your own beliefs. Show that teaching a child to believe in evolution increases the chances of them passing the same beliefs onto their children. i. Show that the more effectively and completely a parent brainwashes their children the better the children will be at infecting the next generation with the idea. ii. Show that over time the average ability of parents to brainwash (their) children will increase.

[6]

(b)

[4]

‘‘We believe in the validity of deductive reasoning’’ - An important mathematician i. Using the above quote, show that all science is really belief and hence less truthful than your beliefs. ii. In particular, show that a belief in the Theory of Evolution is equivalent to a belief in a pagan4 God.

(c) Write an essay on the failings of evolution. Your answer should include a discussion of cosmology and abiogenesis, and should conclude with a proof that your religion is correct.

4

Worshippers of a Pagan God should substitute “Abrahamic” for “pagan”.

C

Debate Tactics

5. (a) In the style of a YouTube comment, show how the title of Richard Dawkins’ book “The Selfish Gene” implies that all atheists are selfish.

[4]

(b) Richard Dawkins has stated that he would like to have dinner with Jesus. Write an account of what would happen if such an encounter took place5 .

[4]

(c) Many religions require you to believe without question. Show that you are accomplished in this by believing the statement below. Your written answer should be a description of how easily you believed it.

[4]

π≡3 (d) Write a paragraph that shows how an atheist acknowledges the Abrahamic Creator every time he writes the year or uses American coins (see Figure 3).

[4]

Figure 3: A coin showing that all people handling the American Dollar are believers in Genesis.

(e) Show how the American Constitution declares America to be a Christian nation. You need not quote directly from the constitution, but may use your own words to demonstrate this.

5

Residents of the USA can use the First Amendment, others must be careful of libel.

[4]

6. Many people believe that God is omnipotent, and therefore far too complex to be understood by humans. This is a powerful argument and can be used in many different ways to win debates. (a) By choosing a passage from your religious text that is bizarre or thoroughly confusing, show that God works in mysterious ways. i. Show further that trying to understand his ways will lead nowhere, and that science is the work of Hades6 . ii. Show that offering alternative explanations to Creation will anger God. iii. Show that He needs defending. This answer should be written in capital letters.

[6]

(b) A plane crashes killing 300 passengers and crew, but one little girl survives with only third-degree burns. From this prove that God exists. i. The girl subsequently dies. With reference to the mysterious ways, show that this was God’s plan all along.

[6]

(c) The Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics postulates that:

[8]

When a system is in a general state |χi, its state vector can be written in terms of the complete orthonormal set {|Ψj i} of the eigenstates of ^ A:

|χi =

X

cj |Ψj i.

j i. Write a paragraph accusing Neils Bohr of “Blinding with Science”. ii. Write a paragraph showing that the above proves the existence of God. iii. Write a paragraph ridiculing Quantum Mechanics as “just a theory”. iv. Issue a fatwa7 against anyone that believes the above quote.

6

Or equivalent Assume, for the purposes of this exam, that you are an Ulema and thus qualified to issue such statements. 7
