Your City. Your Community. Your News
COUNCILLOR’S MESSAGE Last week started with two great winter carnivals at Manordale and Tanglewood. The volunteers had organized everything from sleigh rides to chilli-tasting contests. This is just another example of community spirit in Ward 9. On Tuesday, I attended Ottawa Public Health’s All Staff Event. It was an interesting event which provided an opportunity to meet and discuss issues with staff. For more information about OPH, please check out their website at: http://ottawa.ca/en/residents/public-health. Wednesday started with me emceeing the Cleaning the Capital Awards Ceremony in my role as Transportation Committee Chair. As an added bonus, Ward 9 resident Chris Hrnchiar won the Individual Award for his work in the community during the campaign. Wednesday evening marked the annual Ottawa Sports Awards. It was my privilege to hand out several awards, including the Female Coach of the Year Award. Thank you to all of the volunteers who make this great event happen every year. This week, I also had a chance to meet with our new community policing officer, Cst. Sue Wright. We had a good discussion about the ward. You will have a chance to meet with her at our upcoming Open House on Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at the Nepean Sportsplex from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Halls C/D.
Councillor Egli joins Mayor Watson and Larry O’Keefe, General Manager of Public Works, to congratulate Chris Hrnchiar on winning the Individual Award at the Cleaning the Capital Event on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014.
Trend-Arlington Community Association’s Garage Sale
I also stopped in at the Ottawa Construction Association Open Round Table where topics such as the Auditor General’s report, Quebec-Ontario cross border realties, and the City of Ottawa as a Buyer of Construction were discussed. Finally, I got a tour of the new Cord Blood Bank with the Medical Officer of Health. This important facility is located in our very own ward. We will have more information about this great facility in our next newsletter. I look forward to seeing many of you at the General Burns Community Association’s Skating Day and the Fisher Heights Community Association’s Winter Carnival this Saturday. Till next week, Keith
