NIBROC Car Show Although competing against another popular car show, the NIBROC Car Show was a great success with about 60 registrants. The show took place on Saturday, August 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. between 4th Street and 7th Street on Main Street. The following ten members of the club helped park cars and assisted with registration, setting up, and awarding Spectators and participants enjoyed a day of trophies as needed: Lions Lee Campbell, David Dodd, looking at the cars at this year’s NIBROC Car Brandon Greene, Roger Greene, Jim Manning, Simon Show. Mortimer, Mike Pawula, Mark Thomas, and Mike Weber. David Keck helped in planning the event. Derek and Beth Akers, Melvena Stephenson, and Lisa Hill worked all day registering cars. Beth was also very involved in planning the event. The success of the car show is due in no small part to their participation: please take the time to thank them for their Upcoming Events devotion. O’Reilly Auto Parts sponsored the event to include purchasing trophies and door prizes. Alan Evans devoted his entire day to helping. Please let the good folks at O’Reilly September 3 know how much we appreciate them for helping to make this a successful project. Labor Day Generic DJ’s provided music and announcements. Greg Petrey, Fred Petke (staff Display Flags on Main Street writer at The Times-Tribune), and the wives of the disc jockeys judged the cars. Candy Days On Saturday, September 15, (1-7 p.m.) and Sunday, September 16, (12-5 p.m.) we will hold Candy Days. This is a project that the club has not done for several years, but President Mike Pawula felt that we should participate. One-half of our proceeds will go to the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation (KLEF). Plans are to use a Pepsi serving trailer and set-up in front of Wal-Mart. Ruby Pawula will help with funnel cakes and we’ll have the Lions mascot join us.
Prayer Concerns Lion Charlie Moore continues to recuperate from surgery on his broken arm.

Corbin Backpack Program Doris Moore of the Corbin Backpack Program and Stacie Moses of the Corbin Middle School Family Resource Center were guest speakers on August 20.
Lion Mike Pawula presents Doris Moore a certificate of appreciation for speaking to the club about the Corbin Backpack Program.
Ms. Moore explained that over 8,000 kid-friendly food bags (called backpacks) were delivered to Corbin school children during 2006-07. Funding for the backpacks comes from churches and civic organizations. Ms. Moses discussed the impact on the children in the school. She noted that she gets to see the reward of excited children with their backpacks. The club voted to donate $1,000 to the backpack program using money from the project account.

Corbin Lions Club on the Web You may have noticed the header of our newsletter includes an email address and two web addresses. The CorbinLionsClub.GooglePages.com site includes general club information, photographs, newsletters, links to newspaper articles, and historical information. This site also includes links to other important sites for Lions Clubs: Lions International, KY Lions, LCIF, and LionNet.com. Note that none of these web addresses require uppercase letters: the capital letters simply make reading the addresses easier.
