“Turning Thirty, The Musical” is a musical account of a young couple that is contemplating starting a family and is suddenly faced with a diagnosis of cancer. Tom Willner, playwright and cancer survivor, will perform his musical that’s based on his personal battle with testicular cancer. He uses music and drama to explore his journey of hope, courage, love, and family. Anne McSweeney, LMSW will lead an interdisciplinary discussion around the patient’s perspective – focusing on key points in this journey such as receiving bad news, stages of grief, family dynamics, and survivorship. Next, this full day CEU will lead us into a lively discussion on cultural considerations based on “real-life” case vignettes. Guided by these scenarios we will delve into ethical standards for healthcare professionals and the importance of remaining patient-centered. Come experience this unique approach to continuing education through entertainment and follow-up discussion. This innovative presentation will establish the foundation to more deeply explore issues from a patient’s perspective and provide us with tools to better assist our patients and their caretakers as they go through their journeys.
