General Rehearsal Procedure –
Assessment Activities
NOTE: Assessment in concert band is based on four equally weighted areas. The specific requirements for high school bands varies slightly per quarter, but all types of assessment can be defined within the parameters of the categories below. 1. Class Attendance/Preparation/Participation Attendance: Arriving with all required materials. Preparation: Level of preparation for rehearsal. Participation: Level of engagement and participation in rehearsal. 2. Lesson Attendance/Preparation/Participation – Attendance: Arriving for the required number of lessons and arriving with all required materials. Preparation: Level of preparation for lessons. Participation: Level of engagement and participation in lessons. 3. Playing Test – Each section of the band is assigned an individual portion of one of the pieces for the closest concert. The playing test is meant to represent the most challenging music that you will be playing throughout the concert. Playing will be scored based on a given rubric. 4. Concert Attendance – Students must attend the required concert and perform with the group in order to receive a full grade.
