One of our main activities for the spring semester is a trip to Harlem (NY). The money will be used to cover subway and train fares for a group of approximately 12 people. The train fare is $34/person back and forth. Each participant will be in charge of their meals for the day. During the Harlem trip, we plan to visit the museum for African Art, which has an entrance fee of $2.50/per for students. Thus, we plan to pay the Museum entrance fee for approximately 10 participants. This conference is our most important activity of the Spring semester. Last Spring we were able to attend th eYale Development Conference, this year we decided to attend the Harvard conference. Since it is our most important activity we would like as many people as possible tp participate. Thus, we decided to pay for the participation fee of $35/pers (based on last year's price). We plan to pay for the train fare (both ways) to New Haven which will be $34/per one way and for approximately 10 people. A day in wich we come together as a club to make different deserts that originated from Africa. Open to all Bard students. Pi bond day (03/14) is a fun way to celebrate chemistry and we hope to attract many people to be a part of the celebration It's very important to be able to circulate written materials, as that it a critical way Amnesty International runs it's campaigns Being able to purhcase Human rights films will be integral to our screening/discussion events. Comments We are going to be Ronin bandits from the future This money will go to a bid for a tournament in Bighamton in Rider univeristy. Each school is offering a tournament and we still need to choose which one will be best for the team. This is the tounrament we plan to go to during spring break. We will be playing in the womens division. This fee covers 3 days of Ultimate play. The transportation/room/board will all be paid out of pocket - this is just the registration cost of the tournament. This will also be attended by the men's ultimate team. We plan to go to a 3rd womens tournament sometime in april. The frisbee websites have not yet posted schedules this far in advanced, this is the average cost of a tournament bid. Though we can't possibly expect to give everyone a book, it would be nice to have at least one physical copy to circulate at meetings and by for people who can't afford the asking price. Lots of snacks are vital to creating the leisurely, friendly atmosphere we are seeking to create for readers and club memebers.

Included in the email is the bill from Colorpage in Kingston (it ended up costing closer to 1600) There are many people in the area who have the knowledge that we need learn in order to transform this garden into a permaculture site. We would like to build a compost bin in order to demonstrate to the community how to compost and how they can build one in their own home. By having a solar dehydrator in the garden we can preserve the plants growing in the garden as well as have a structure that community members can use. There are many conferences and workshops occuring in the area this fall that would be beneficial for garden representatives to attend in order to bring that knowledge back We want to reduce the amount of water we use from the hose by catching rain water One of the most famous contra-dance bands. We are so excited to have them come back to Bard! We will be very excited to have the experienced caller Will Mentor back at Bard. We are thrilled to welcome this new band to Bard. Peter is an fantastic caller that who we have a heard many good things about. He heard about us from a lot of sources and reached out and is excited to finally come call at Bard! Dave is the original founder of the Bard Contra Dance Club and has become a caller since graduating - we a thrilled to welcome him back. Dave is bringing some of his musician friends, some of whom are Bard graduates and quite talented, to play together. this is the season opener--all Northeast debate teams attend and we are hoping to send the whole team.

Sound-recording equipment. (We already have a recorder and microphone.) Stabilizers, one for each C-Stand. They make a set safer by preventing prevent stands and lights from falling over. This tool allows for much smoother focusing of a camera while filming and is an important tool for high-quality cinematography. This money is for supplies for the spring 48-Hour Film Festival. We request funds for printing 10 posters a week, for the next 11 weeks. Design is free. Ten 11x17 color posters a week would be $1 a piece. 1 for Weis, 2 for Olin, 4 for Campus Center, 2 for Kline, and 1 for Henderson. So $10 a week, for the next 11 weeks - $110.

We would like to print a small calendar for distribution in student mailboxes. So estimate 1600 students. Each calendar would be small, about 8 to a page. So 200 pages, at 80 cents for color prices would be $160, and would HUGELY effect attendance. We would request that we could pay screeners for 1.5 hours for each movie. Since Student Activities event staff handles Friday screenings (they are paid), it would only cost $24 a weekend to make sure the show goes on. For the next 11 weekends (whole semester) - $264. Since not all of our screenings are through SWANK we have to rent movies. It costs about 4.50 to rent a movie for 2 days from Red Hook. Assume 10 of the movies are from SWANK this semester, which leaves 12 movies at 4.50 each, $54. We would really love to be able to afford to provide coffee at the suggested outdoor screening, and snacks to draw in audiences for more club-collaboration events. To save funds, we would bake stuff ourselves, but for ingredients and using Chartwell's coffee for say 5 events, this seems about right.

There is also an entry fee at the gunks and all this adds up since we take 8 -10 people each time and we would like to go at least two times this semester. At 12 weeks (not including breaks) we would need 360 dollars for gas. We would like more of our club heads to be certified in wilderness first aid. the basics! each chanter needs to see this book to participate. 6 books needed for sanskrit chants. digital instrument provides a drone. communal chant requires books only for people with instruments. 2 books to bring us to local events off campus. (honorariums and catering) This semester we are going to self-publish 2 chapbooks of student writing. They vary in length, but are usually 24 pages. The budget of the chapbooks also include the cost of labor and transportation. Nice paper is expensive, and if we print 50 copies of each chapbook, $200 is a strict budget. We will also be printing broadsides, which are single poems printed on nice paper distributed around campus and put up to for viewing. These will consist of student writing as well the writing of some professors. We will have reading series every other week, and during readings we’ve had in the past we’ve provided refreshments. We also try to provide a comfortable environment that meets the content of the readings. Refreshment examples would be cookies, cheese, and nice crackers. Since the readings are the titular part of our club, they are quite important, and need to be presented as such. Each kit @$40/10 volunteers

In order to reach out to the student body, we need the means to produce factual, eye-catching posters that will reach everyone. We find speakers to be an extremely important and effective way to connect with the student body and educate in a fun, social, and intellectual way. Beehive came in a previous year, and it was an extremely successful event. Having important, educated figures come to provide open lectures and talks for the Bard Community is a crucial aspect of environmental education, and we would like to sponsor the discussion. The BCFFDC would like to have a permanent advertising object for tabling.

One publisher (Lulu) has given us the quote of 4.03 per copy, and other publishers are working on the figures, but said that it would likely be similar. We need money to bring bands to Bard, pay them gas money, and enhance campus life for the community. The Root Cellar hosts vegan, seasonal potlucks for the Bard community - Rootsgiving was well attended, and a spring barbecue is in the works. These events bring the community together and introduce more people to the space. We need to buy vegan burgers, vegetables, hamburger buns, etc. We need more cleaning supplies to keep the place clean and tidy. The Root Cellar is in desparate need of new furniture. With this money, we can upgrade the falling-apart chairs and sofas, invest in lighter, cleaner furniture, in order to upgrade the space and make it more inviting for community use. Last year's trip to Brighton was great. This semester we would very much prefer to take metronorth. This will cover a little over the cost of a one way ticket to Brighton Beach on MetroNorth for approximately 12 participents. We hope to take a few of the Russian PIE exchange students to walk around glorious Brighton Beach to explore the Russian culture. If more students wish to come, we will spread the money we've recieved out more. Each person will cover the additional cost of a MetroNorth ticket. In addition to Brighton, on a separate trip, we would very much like to take the PIE students on a trip to the city. Our club president, Dan, is a native to these lands and has generously offered to lead this tour/expedition. We will explore Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and near-by parts of the city in order to present "the city as the the local sees it". The same metronorth pricing applies as the Brighton trip. We would like to invite a representative from Human Rights Watch to speak on the film, "Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer", which HRW collaborated on with HBO. The cost includes roundtrip transport from New York City to Rhinecliff--via Amtrak--as well as cab fair from Rhinecliff to campus For our film screenings open to the entire school. We will serve traditional Russian cookies and tea. Because Russians love tea. And cookies. This is the song book that we sing from every Sunday. It is the very core of our club. Due to growth we need more books. This money will go towards the gasoline expense for our club's Fall Break trip to Alabama. We will attend two all-day Sacred Harp singings. Comments Even though there has been a setback for the Bard Skate Club as the ramp has been removed from its previous location at SMOG for liability reasons, we have gotten approval from the town of Tivoli and from the Bard administration. We spent last semester meeting weekly with the administration and coming up with a new location for the ramp. Although it is unfortunate that we will not have the ramp at SMOG, it will be easily accessible to students as it will be right at the shuttle stop. By moving the ramp to Tivoli we will further develope Bard's relationship with the local community, and will avoid legal conflict. This is where we need your support! Moving the ramp to Tivoli will ensure that the ramp does not go to waste—It would be a great shame to for the five thousand dollars used to build the ramp to go down the drain and it would be a equally great shame for the culture surrounding the ramp to be destroyed. Please help us move the ramp so future and current students can enjoy skating while attending Bard. Comments This is a collaborative Senior Project in Music and Dance. We want to create an evening length work that begins as more of an exhibition or installation. We want to create a gallery space, rather than a classical proscenium layout by building multiple rooms partitioned by black and white curtains. This gives the audience the freedom to move around the space, to create their own journey. The project will culminate in a 20minute piece, all in one room. There are 11 dancers and 2 musicians. To know what happens inside the rooms you have to come see the show. In tandem with her senior project, which is on Festivals in France (Carnival), wherein people are transformed into BEARS, Ines will utilize the elements of the festival in her performance, while planning on hunting and tanning her VERY OWN HIDES for the costumes. She will be staging this performance in Montgomery Place Orchards. !!! Rebecca is putting on an immersive theater experience in the Old Gym, where the audience members RSVP in advance to a dinner. They will be escorted to tables, and the evening will unwind in conversation...and dramatics! Jacky is putting on Sarah Kane's play, Cleansed, for her senior project, which includes "impossible" stage directions, and intriguing language. She will be using her budget to fund puppets made by Studio Arts major Hannah Rosenblum, who knows materials and their costs quite well. She also needs a stripper booth, wherein one of her major characters will be. She hopes to build this in the scene shop. Mari, Patrick Dwyer, Michael Kulukundis and Eleanor Robb are putting on a play about Refuge, a family with a destructive bi-polar son who is not attempting to get his life together. The set includes normal household goods, which are perishable, and will need, therefore, to be replenished during the perfromances. Julia is putting on a multi-disciplinary project using dance, voice-over and projection, focusing on my hometown, Stone Mountain, Georgia, a town that served as the revival place and sacred soil of the Ku Klux Klan. Through the interviews she conducted and the essays she is writing in my senior project, I'm adapting my written arts project into a performance piece exploring how history is seeded into the land, how land and buildings are repurposed, white privilege, the complexity of human nature in relation to prejudice, and other themes that pertain to race relations Becca is putting on an adaptation of Macbeth all about Lady Macbeth. The money she will be using will go towards props and costumes (masks, food, weapons, crowns, second-skins (!), dresses, paint and gobos (!). Exciting! Emma needs a microphone for a reading of her play. The play is about a Rooster, the inhabitants of a house, a horrible doctor who is beautiful and doesn't mean to be horrible, a turtle, a dog, and the impossibility of giving birth to another human being (or animal being) when you are already so messy anyway, who needs a baby right? 50 each to film and photography students for final show
IMPORTANT-SAFETY Dance instructor, Neil Curri gave 5 lessons free of chage as a trial last semester. But, his lessons were such a hit, that we decided to reconfigure the budget to give him a bit of compensation. We've asked him to return for more lessons this semester. This amount covers about five to seven lessons with Neil. Neil dances frequently in the area and helps to foster a welcoming environment for Bard students at community dances. Keep up the good work! We would like to pay our defensive driver who takes us to community dances on a weekly basis We plan to host at the end of the semester a Swing Club event open to the campus as a too chunky This semester, we plan to attend several swing events in Red Hook, Kingston, Hudson, and Poughkeepsie. Many of these events have cover charges (none more than $15) for the floor and live bands. This amount takes care of cover charges for around 5-7 sudents per dance. Last semester we had great success travelling to community dances and ended up running out of budget money for the cover charges. We plan to take our own vehicles or possibly Bard Vans via the transportations department (we have at least one Bard Driver) to the community dances. We have calculated the approximate gas charges for all of the events combined.

Comments This amount would go towards milonga club cover charges and trips to local milongas in New Paltz,Albany, Woodstock, Germantown, and New York City. These trips allow us to volunteer our own musicians for the milonga dance sessions while helping to further connect Bard tango with the wider tango community in the Hudson Valley and New York City. We will be using Chungin Goodstein to teach a weekly beginners lesson and intermidiate private lessons for the duration of the semester. This sum will go to pay for that service. We will be hosting this semester 2 milongas at the beginningof the semester and during Spring Fling for the tango club and residential community dancers. In previous years there have been great numbers of people who turn out to both milongas and we would like to make sure that there is enough food, because in past years there hasn't been. This will cover the entry fee for the all night milonga entry fee and approximately it is 20 dollars per person. We would like to take at least 15 members. This is the Tango Club's largest Spring event when members of the Bard Tango club meet with other colleges' tango clubs and many famous tango studios. Not only are we able to promote the college and tango club to other colleges such as Harvard, Princeton, and Brown, but also to philanthropists that can contribute to the Bard tango communtiy. The tango club would like to bring 10 people to the festival; dates March 28th and 29th. The cost estimation includes entry fees for the members, hotel, food. We have tried to find less expensive hotel accomodations. We have connections to Tango Dj's in the hudson valley that have given us a discounted price of 400 dollars to provide music for both of our milongas. Nowhere else could we get such a great price for 2 events. Because Bard Tango is growing and becoming not only a club, but also a place where we can connect and learn from the community, advertisement is necessary. We are hoping to advertise through local milonga clubs which costs money and in festival magazines, so we have to buy advertisement spaces. Many of our members cannot afford the proper dance shoes needed to practice, and particularly for our member that have disabilities and have a hard time finding shoes (but attend all classes and milongas), especially have trouble getting proper tango shoes. We are an all inclusive club and want everyone whether they have the money for resources or not to be able to participate comfortably. After the spring photoshoot, we want to be able to give out the prints from the shoot instead of just putting them online, so we will need money for printing. For our Valentine's Day Party, we are not collaborating with other clubs and we want to have all kinds of desserts for our guests. (B&G, Performance fee professors, etc) The floor of the studio gets filthy, and no matter how many times we clean it, it doesn't get better. A carpet would help control dirt buildup, and would be easy to clean. Our chairs in the studio are broken, and DJs have often fallen off of them while doing their shows. These swivel stands will make speaking into and accessing our microphones smoother and easier. Many of our wires are frayed and need to be replaced. We have so many records, but nothing to play them on! To make more WXBC shirts stickers, markers, tape to keep track and organize music that is sent in from promoters. Our monitors are currently sitting on broken post-office boxes on the floor, which distorts the sound and leaves the monitors themselves vulnerable to damage. The table we have now is on its last legs (no pun intended), and in order to use the swivel stands they'll need to be installed into a sturdier table. We want to invite Lana Heintjes from New Paltz, Rock yoga to instruct an acro yoga lesson and provide instruction into acrobatic yoga postures that will have the potential to be in the Bard Circus. Have a great semester To sponsor Professor Douglas Brooks from the University of Rochester to lecture about yoga philosophy. Douglas is an internationaly know yogic scholar who would has much to offer for members of yoga club but also philosophy and religions majors. It is important to have eyecatching posters for our workshops and our weekly yoga classes. We want to bring alternative types of yoga that are not offered in the Bard Gym and want to invitied Martin Cash to come and teach a two hour workshop on the Kundalini technique. We want to offer Thai yoga Massage durring finals to help students cope with stress. Diana Brenes Seiler has offered to train students in Thai yoga massage so that we can continue 250 to help each other heal.
