CHOOEY WOWOW WORLD SHORT FILM CONTEST
Competition Guidelines I.
Introduction Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) chocolate brand, Jack ‘n Jill Chooey collaborated with the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) to host a special film-making competition in this year’s Animahenasyon Festival – a Filipino Animation festival that showcases works of aspiring and professional film animators. The film competition calls for the country’s up-and-coming student animators to produce animated short films. The concept of the film should latch on the brand’s latest campaign, Chooey Wowow World campaign, which aims to encourage kids to enjoy creative and imaginative play in a fun and playful world of chocolate goodness.
Background on Chooey Jack ‘N Jill Chooey, the well-loved chewy chocolate brand from Universal Robina Corporation, continuously provides long lasting fun to kids since 1996. It comes in two (2) chewy flavors: Choco- chewy butterscotch caramel coated in rich chocolate Toffee- chewy butter toffee coated in rich chocolate FAST FACTS: Chooey Wowow World is the ongoing campaign of Chooey launched in 2015 featuring the brand characters, BUBOY AND FRIENDS. The campaign highlights Buboy’s fun adventures with his friends that they create through their active imagination. Under this campaign, the following TV commercial materials were released and are currently being aired in local and cable channels. a. Trapeze- features Buboy as a trapeze acrobat b. Bubbles- shows Buboy and Lulu playing bubbles in the park c. Astrobeth- this stars Beth imaging herself as a space explorer d. Hide and Seek- showcases all the characters during their playtime II.
Qualifications for Participation: Who can join?
The competition is open to all Filipino student animators, eighteen (18) years old and above, currently residing in the Philippines and enrolled this school year. No application fee is required to join the competition.

Mechanics 1. Initial Round: Storyboard/Animatic Submission a) The initial output required is a story board or animatic for 2-3 minutes animated short film latching on the brand’s Chooey Wowow World Campaign. Aside from taking inspiration from the campaign, it should also feature Buboy and friends the characters in Jack ‘n Jill Chooey’s animated TV commercial. b) A single entry shall have a running time anywhere between 2 minutes (Minimum) to 3 minutes (Maximum). c) To join the competition, participants must submit the following directly to the ACPI office located at 5th Floor, IBPAP Office, C2 Bldg., Bonifacio High Street Central, 28th St. cor. 7th Ave., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, 1634

d) A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the participant if entry was received by ACPI. e) Deadline of entries is on or before March 17 2017 5:00 pm. f)
Everything is assumed to be an original creation. The use of original music & original animation software is encouraged and preferred. With regard to using copyrighted music, one may still use existing music as long as this is properly acknowledged/credited and preferably licensed, and the animated work submitted was done as a school project, capstone or thesis and was completed during the period when s/he was a student. Entrant who has secured a license agreement must submit a photo copy of the agreement as attachment. Failure to acknowledge or provide credit to the rightful copyright owners will result in the works being disqualified from the competition.
g) Screening for the top twenty (20) entries will be on 25 March 2017. Participants who will make it through will be notified by ACPI and will be judged based on the following criteria:
RELEVANCE TO THE THEME (40%) - This comprises of application of the Chooey Wowow World campaign and message to the work.
CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY (40%)-This comprises originality of concept and direction. Great importance is given to coherence of idea, aesthetic and conceptual innovation and creative storytelling.
OVERALL IMPACT (20%)-This comprises both the technical and artistic aspect of animation. The works should have outstanding visual and aural creativity and should be innovative in its use of animation as a tool of communication. Above all, the work should be latched to the Chooey Wowow World Campaign.

Semi-Final Round a) The top twenty (20) shortlisted animators must prepare to present their storyboard/animatic in front of a panel made up of representatives from URC and the festival committee. Presentation will be on March 25, 2017, Saturday at the URC Office b) Each animator will be given 10 minutes: 5 minutes to present, 5 minutes for questions from panel. c) Out of the twenty (20) participants, ten (10) finalists will be chosen to participate in the final round of the contest. Announcement will be on the 4th week of March, the finalists will be informed via e-mail and the list will be posted in the ACPI website. Entries will be screened using the following criteria:

d) The Ten (10) finalists will receive the 3D renderings of the Chooey Characters for their reference e) The Ten (10) finalists will receive fifty percent (50%) cash fund which they may use for the capital for production, equivalent to Php 25,000.(Note: they may or may not
use the cash given for production, the spending of which will be dependent on the participant) . f)
Upon receipt of the initial cash prize, the participant is bound to produce the short film required in the final round. g) The Ten (10) finalists will also undergo a mentorship program with reendowed practitioners in the industry to guide them. A mentor will be assigned per participant. 3. Finals a) The (10) finalists will be given total of six (6) months to produce their Chooey Wowow World Short Films with the guidance of their assigned mentor. b) Meeting of mentors and participants will be based on the agreement and discretion of both parties.

4 c) An offline presentation during the 3rd month, June 2017 will be held to check the status of the participants’ materials being produced. The ten (10) finalists will also receive the balance of the capital for production worth Php 25,000. (Note: they may
or may not use the cash given for production, the spending of which will be dependent on the participant.) d) During the 6th month, October 2017, the final judging and announcement of winners will be held. The winners will be chosen by a set of jury, to be composed of representatives from Chooey and the festival committee shall determine the winners. e) Final output shall be rendered in 3D rendering, “frame by frame,” including computer graphics animation. A single entry shall have a running time anywhere between 2 minutes (Minimum) to 3 minutes (Maximum). Must contain Chooey Wowow World elements and characters Technical specifications: full or high-resolution .avi data file, with a frame size of 1920 x 1080, and a compression of DV NTSC f) All entries will be judged based on the following criteria: (criteria based on Animahenasyon festival)

Awards and Prizes 1. Grand Prize This is the highest award given by the Jury to the BEST ENTRY chosen among the finalist. Winner will receive PHP 100,000 cash prize. 2. Special Jury Award This is a special award or citation given by the Jury. Winner will receive PHP 20,000 cash prize. 3. Best in Art Direction/Technical This is a special award given by the Jury to the BEST ANIMATION exhibiting excellent QUALITY IN SOUND, IMAGE & ANIMATION. Winner will receive PHP 10,000 cash prize.

5 4. Best in Narrative This is a special award given by the Jury to the BEST ANIMATION produced with excellent STORY TELLING. Winner will receive PHP 10,000 cash prize. 5. Viewer’s Choice This is a special award granted by the audience. The entry with the highest number of ballot votes during the finals awarding ceremony will win and receive PHP 10,000 cash prize. Note: All cash prizes exceeding Ten Thousand Pesos (P10, 000) shall be subject to twenty percent (20%) prize tax, which shall be shouldered by Universal Robina Corp. The five (5) winners will receive the cash prize only once rendered short film making use of licensed software is submitted to ACPI and URC. V.
Winning Films 1. Participants will retain ownership and copyright but will grant URC royalty-free license during the contest period 2. For Winning entries – Full ownership of the copyright over the winning participants’ entries is transferred to Universal Robina Corp. All rights pertaining to said ownership shall therefore exclusively pertain to Universal Robina Corp upon winners’ claiming of the prizes. Corresponding waiver form must be signed upon receipt of prizes. 3. Universal Robina Corp. and Creative Programs, Inc., and their subsidiaries and their affiliates, have the exclusive right to reproduce and broadcast the short films submitted, and to use, copy, broadcast, and distribute the short films submitted for commercial and non-commercial purposes in connection with the promo, without having to consult the composer or to provide any compensation thereof during the promo period.
VI.
Disqualification
Participants who do not meet the promo requirements for joining Entries that do not meet the date and time deadline for submission of entry Regular employees, contractual employee, talents, and their relatives up to the second de gree of affinity or consanguinity of the following are NOT allowed to join: 1. ACPI and all its affiliates 2. Universal Robina Corporation; and 3. Persons reporting regularly to the promoter, sponsor or advertiser under a contract of service and who, by the nature of the service they render may have a direct and personal knowledge of this promotion are likewise to be disqualified.
