Cemetery Committee 25 June 2013 Members Present: Laura Bonde, Connie Eddy, Ann Johnson, Don Keith, Sue Krause, Jim MacKenzie Members Absent: Tony Lizzadro Discussion Items: • Appoint officers: o Chairman Pro Tem: Ann Johnson o Secretary: Laura Bonde Field work to find grid markers has been started. South boundary found. Work began from • the southeast corner following the eastern boundary moving northwest. Might want to consider small cement markers at intervals to assist finding the grid markers in the future. Should recruit others to help with survey. We need to make a small numbered grid to track progress • Cemetery Cost Surveys: Our costs are in line with neighboring townships. We also charge a fifty dollar administrative fee. If a backhoe is needed the cost is fifteen dollars per hour. Downstate prices are substantially higher. Plots range from one to two thousand dollars. We are listed in the Funeral Consumers Information Society database as allowing green burials. We do not. The state of Michigan requires embalming. • Ordinance discussion and suggested changes/additions o State that fees to be determined by resolution o Section XIII Penalties- add or be penalized by civil infraction o Section VI should we specify restrictions as to size of monuments? • MTA Cemetery Workshop offered. Petition board to purchase the materials from the course Action Items: • Review ordinance for next meeting. • Ann will update information with the Funeral Consumers Information Society. • Field work: Any and all welcome. Purchase flagging tape • Petition board to purchase MTA Cemetery book and CD if the township doesn’t already own it.
