Cascading Stars by Afton Warrick www.quiltingmod.blogspot.com Fabric Requirements (width of fabric from selvage to selvage 42”+): 1/8 yard of six different fabrics for stars 1 1/3 yard of background fabric 1/2 yard of binding 1 1/2 yard of backing Cutting Instructions: From 6 different fabrics, cut 4 of each: 2 1/2” x 4” rectangle 2 1/2” x 6” rectangle Cut 4 5 1/2” strips x width of fabric strips from the background fabric. Crosscut into 48 3 1/2” x 5 1/2” rectangles. You should get 12 rectangles from each strip. Cut 2 of each from the background fabric as shown: 6 1/2” x 5 1/2” rectangle 6 1/2” x 10 1/2” rectangle 6 1/2” x 15 1/2” rectangle 6 1/2” x 20 1/2” rectangle 6 1/2” x 25 1/2” rectangle

Add a stitch and flip triangle to the short side of a 3 1/2” x 5 1/2” background rectangle using a 2 1/2” x 4” rectangle. Add a stitch and flip triangle to the long side of a 3 1/2” x 5 1/2” background rectangle using a 2 1/2” x 6” rectangle. Make two of each using the same fabric. Choose one or the other for each block. OR
Right sides should be together. Use a 1/4” seam allowance. Flip to check if the rectangle will cover before actually stitching. The corners of the rectangle closest to the line of stitching should extend beyond the background rectangle and cross from one side to its neighboring side. NO
Press toward the corner of the background rectangle.
Flip over and cut off the fabric that sticks out from the background rectangle.
Flip over, lift up the triangle, and cut the seam allowance of the background underneath to 1/4”.
Sew together the four rectangles with the stitch and flip triangles in the center. Repeat the process to make 11 more star blocks. Make pairs of star blocks by attaching the short sides.
Assemble the quilt top using the layout below. The number listed on the background rectangles is the length of each block. The width will always be 6 1/2”.
