CAMPUS VILLAGE WELLNESS COORDINATOR The Wellness Coordinator assists in the design, implementation and assessment of programs and services that are based in the Campus Village housing community at the University of California, Irvine. The position is a student leadership position with certain expectations and requirements. The following sections describe the expectations and requirements of the position. Students who are chosen for the position and who accept this responsibility are expected to commit wholeheartedly in each of these areas.

PURPOSE & GOALS      

To improve mental, physical and emotional well-being of Campus Village residents through meaningful and collaborative programming opportunities. To develop partnerships with other departments on campus. To support the idea of a living & learning community in which academics and learning are integrated outside of the classroom at the students’ front doors. To address relevant issues and topics affecting students at UCI and residents in Campus Village. To promote a greater awareness and appreciation of the diversity of Campus Village residents. To help alleviate the sense of apathy and ignite student activism about issues on campus, in the surrounding community, and around the world.

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Wellness Coordinator:   

Develops positive personal relationships with students and is available and sensitive to their academic and personal growth and development. Coordinates, organizes, and implements a series of classes, programs and events in partnership with Health Education, the Counseling Center, the ARC and other community resources. Conducts regular hours in the 1053 Wellness & Rejuvenation Center to provide a study break, program space and relaxation zone for residents as well as interact with Campus Village students. Minimum requirement of 3 hours per week, at the same time on the same night each week. Maintains and updates a monthly rotating bulletin board featuring campus resources to be located in the Wellness & Rejuvenation Center. Maintains a complex-wide accessible collection of campus resources and services. Serves as a resource person to staff in providing educational and curriculum-based program development. Leads the coordination of campus outreach for the apartments including Career Services, Academic Advising, Pre-major Advising, Study Abroad Program, Center for Service in Action, Cross Cultural Center, LARC, and various academic departments. Facilitates an environment conducive to growth in the intellectual, physical, philosophical, personal, and interpersonal lives of residents. Promotes an inclusive environment of affirmation and support for all members of the community. Meets weekly with supervisor for at least an hour to update on current/ongoing projects and progress. Devotes 8-10 hours per week to the position. Four of these hours must be held during university business hours. This includes: regular posted office hours, meetings, event planning, event attendance, project work, and administrative responsibilities. Writes a regular column for the CV publication, The CV Chronicles which highlights campus services & events. Assists in the preparation of materials publicizing CV’s services and programs. Networks with University administrators and other departments across campus. Represents Campus Village Housing as a member of the Alcohol & Other Drug Task Force. Provides students and staff with information on and referral to campus and community resources. Researches, requests and purchases resources to be provided for residents in the Wellness & Rejuvenation Center that will be available for check out by residents. Other duties will be determined based on the interest of the selected candidate and the needs of Campus Village Housing.

COMPENSATION 

Monthly Stipend- $350

REQUIRED TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES    

Attend weekly Tuesday night staff meetings from 5-7pm beginning in Fall 2010. Attend all-staff Academic Year retreat (January 2011). Attend quarterly staff gatherings one Friday per quarter (advance notice will be provided). Maintain 2.4 quarterly and cumulative GPA.

Candidate must be a fully enrolled (12 units or more per quarter), undergraduate student with a minimum 2.4 cumulative GPA in good standing with the University. Must have a positive attitude and be a contributing member of a fast-paced team environment. Must be willing to collaborate with numerous offices on campus and able to interact with a diverse student and staff population. Existing relationships with campus departments highly encouraged and desired. Must be self-motivated, extremely organized and detail-oriented. Experience with Microsoft and Adobe programs (Publisher, Excel, Word, Outlook, Illustrator, Photoshop) highly preferred. Candidate will need to live in the Campus Village Housing Community during the 2010-2011 academic year. *A year-round housing contract may be available for successful candidate as needed. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment toward teamwork and community building. All on- or off-campus employment, leadership/service opportunities & organizational memberships during the employment period must be discussed with and approved in ADVANCE by the Apartment Life Coordinator at the beginning of each quarter.

A planned activity relating to cultivating student academic success.

EducationalA planned activity, exercise, or event that focuses on one’s development as an individual and teaches them something new & meaningful. ServiceA planned event that provides opportunities for students to engage in activities which will benefit the outside community and challenge conceptions of reality, create greater dialogue about the world at large, and form lasting relationships with community agencies. These programs should be action-oriented as opposed to more passive. Development- A planned activity which provides opportunities & resources for growth to the residents in the areas of Leadership, Personal, or Vocational Development. The activity should challenge students to grow & develop beyond the activity. WellnessA planned activity or event that provides resources and tools for personal betterment. This may be in the areas of: Health Intellectual Emotional Physical Recreational Social Sustainability- A planned activity or event with a focus on environmental issues that leaves the residents with a new set of habits and resources to encourage sustainability at UCI. Diversity/Social Activism- A planned activity or event that provides education or exposure to other cultures and diversity issues, challenges conceptions of reality, and creates greater dialog about the world at large. Faculty InvolvementAn event that should involve a faculty member in some way or another. This can be as a presenter, a guest, or a demonstrator or panel member.

PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS PER QUARTER   

     

Coordinate a minimum of two (2) community-wide programs that meets a goal area. Coordinate a minimum of one (1) event sponsored by another campus partner (other department, student group or service) hosted by Campus Village in the Wellness & Rejuvenation Center. Promote awareness and CV attendances of a minimum of one (1) event/program by a campus partner, with an organized meeting spot for Campus Village residents to meet to walk to event together. PLEASE NOTE: Because of the hiring timeline, the Apartment Life Coordinator will work with the successful candidate to determine reasonable expectations for programming for the Fall 2010 Quarter. Regular office hours in Campus Village Housing Office, a minimum of 4 hours per week between the hours of 9:00am5:00pm. Regular hours spent in the Wellness & Rejuvenation Center a minimum of 3 hours per week, to be kept at the same day and time each week. Maintain an events calendar featuring CV and campus events related to wellness, located on a kiosk outside the Wellness & Rejuvenation Center.
