GUMDALE GRANDSLIDERS – CALLER – Alan Evans Gumdale Grandsliders were up and dancing again on the 28 th January, followed by our Australia Day Dance on the 29th. We have had our ups and downs with attendances due to illness and the busy lives of our “grey nomads”, but on the whole, a good year. A notice in the local paper brought in one enthusiastic learner and we are hoping for more. Our new committee for 2014 has been elected and we are happy to welcome back Heather Pennington as President, Harold Liley Vice - President, Dorothy Byrnes – Secretary , Teresa Supel – Treasurer, with Bev Liley – Executive Assistant. The club will celebrate 27 years of dancing on the 9th April and visitors will be made most welcome. Thank You, Fay Moore

WAVELL WHIRLAWAYS What a beautifully decorated hall we had to walk into for our birthday on 19th March. A big thank you to Chris, and her band of merry helpers for giving of their time in the afternoon to do the decorations. We wold also like to thank our visitors for coming to help us celebrate this milestone. As part of the celebration we set up a table for supper as we used to, with tablecloth, cups and saucers, sugar basin and milk jug. Chairs were placed and the lucky few were served their tea and coffee, memories of days gone by. We would again like to say a big thank you to Sid and Betty Leighton for keeping the Club going through good and bad times and here is to many more years of dancing to one of Australia’s best Callers.

SUNCOASTERS Our dancers were glad to have Nev and Bev back from the turtles so that we could commence plus dances on Monday nights again. During their absence we have continued with Basic learners and Mainstream on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Gary Petersen calling; and our round dancers have progressed well under the tutelage of Helen and Barry Hall, with Paul Green cueing. We have been fortunate in retaining most of last year’s Basic newcomers as well as with Gary’s “Come and Try” night attracting new ones this year. Our angels have been doing a fantastic job, and Tuesday and Wednesday groups continue to be very friendly and sociable workshops. The number of enthusiastic round dance learners on a Monday night has also continued to grow. Kind regards, Lyn

Cairns City Square Dance Club Our Friday Night dances have continued with steady numbers dancing plus, mainstream and basic made up of our members plus U3A and Ulysses Club members and learners. 3 of these learners Janine, Helen and Andrew travel down from Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tableland most weeks. Other members also travel a distance from Mareeba, Kuranda and Innisfail to dance with the club. Henry and Dian have been away visiting relatives on the Sunshine Coast. Marilyn has not danced this year due to her injuring her shoulder in a fall at home. Plus only nights have recommenced on one Monday night each month. The Club held its 41st birthday on Friday 21st March with great dancing and a delicious supper afterwards. It was pleasing to have visitors from Ulysses, U3A and Waterfall Squares Malanda clubs join us to celebrate the night. During the night Hilda and Tom called in to say hello to everyone. Most members will be visiting Ulysses Club on the 25th March for their Birthday dance. Some members dance regularly at Ulysses and U3A clubs and also travel to Waterfall Squares Malanda for their monthly dance. Until next month Janet Hansen— Publicity Officer Please have all Bugle Advertisements in prior to 25th of each Month Thank You.

Hervey Bay On the 3rd of March we held our AGM and the standing committee was elected unopposed. The meeting was followed by a night of dancing. Monday is normally our PLUS night, but this was changed to Basic, Mainstream and PLUS to accommodate everyone. What with Pizza for dinner in between, a great night was had by all. We are a happy bunch; who all work together for the good of the club. Our 25th Birthday was celebrated with Heritage City Hoedowners in Maryborough last weekend. Wow, what a weekend we had! Thanks to all the visitors from north to Mackay and South to the Gold Coast who made a special effort to help us celebrate. Thank you all very much. We really appreciate you travelling to Maryborough for our memorable occasion. Brian Hotchkies was at his best, moving Squares around the floor, tandem Squares, 6 couple Squares and incorporating old moves no longer used in Modern Square Dancing. The mood was electric, especially on Saturday night when the numbers swelled even further with many donning Silver. We cut the cake, sang Happy Birthday, and sat down to a most scrumptious supper. Some were lucky enough to win one of our many door or raffle prizes. The fun continued into the Sunday morning when we still had 6 smiling Squares dancing. The sore feet and aching hips were ignored as Brian just kept calling different moves. To round the weekend off we all enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch and shared hugs all around before everyone left for home. Very tired, but totally happy. Thanks to Heritage City Hoedowners and Hervey Bay Club members, friends and family for all the hard work with decorating, providing suppers, prizes, Sunday lunch, taking down decorations on Sunday afternoon and all the various behind the scenes jobs which so often go unnoticed on a weekend like this. Next event for many of us will be the National Convention in Canberra. Till then, Happy Dancing from Hervey Bay.

RAMBLING EIGHTS Salisbury Caller David Pearce Like so many other clubs, Rambling Eights Dancers celebrate their birthday in February. At our BBQ in January the decision was made to host our 28th birthday on February 14th and of course we would have a Valentine’s theme. With so many dancers dressed in the colours of pink or red with love hearts adorning, and the walls decorated with love hearts and red and white balloons, there was no mistaking that love was in the air. David was prepared with love songs to call, and it was great to have callers Noel, Glenn and Peter joining in with the fun and frivolity. With Monte Carlo, door prizes and raffles many got to go home with a little extra something, and the night finished with a sumptuous supper outside in the cooler evening air. All club members are looking forward to more friendliness set to music when we host the AGM Dance on 29th March. David and Faith hosted the regular club BBQ in January, a social and planning night. This is turning out to be a popular event and with 34 people attending this time, filling the space to capacity, plans may need to be made to extend the entertainment area! The plan for club nights was discussed and the decision was made to accommodate new dancers with half an hour teaching basics from 7 to 7.30, then alternate dancing basic and mainstream brackets till supper. After supper only mainstream and some plus when suitable. As we look forward to welcoming new dancers we also remember to value our loyal club members, and thank everyone for their participation to make club nights a great night for everyone.

STEPPING OUT WITH CLOGGING Another successful STORM KING weekend of Clogging, as we celebrated SK’s 25 th Birthday with lots of dancing (naturally), laughs, and the bringing together of a wonderful crowd of enthusiastic dancers. Sincere thanks to Edith, Jenny and their host of happy helpers. Keep the weekend of the 3rd and 4th May free, as that is URBAN & COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL time at the Historical Village next to the Caboolture Showgrounds in Beerburrum Road. This year, the Clogging and Line Dancing sessions will be held on both mornings and both afternoons in a large room behind the ‘Pub’ which is in the middle of the Village amongst all the food and merchandise stalls and other sparkling entertainment. Come along- it is a great day/weekend out. The Clogging sessions will include ‘Give-Clogging-a-try’ segments. A Clogging Social Dance on Sunday night, commencing at 6:30 p.m. in the Stanmore Hall (which is located in the Historical Village grounds beside the roadway), will be a great finale to a weekend of dancing at one of our favourite events. Sweet Saturday the seventeenth is the date in May, and twenty-seven is the celebration; yes, it’s CHUG-A-LUGS 27th Birthday, with a full day of Clogging starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Coorparoo School of Arts Hall, Corner Cavendish Road and Headfort Street, Coorparoo. Visitors are very welcome. Regulars to our new venue will tell you of the great floor and the ease of parking. Checked out our old place at Greenslopes which will have the demolition crews on site very soon, to look through the safety fence and see our notice of change of address to Coorparoo still attached to the entrance doors: a bit of nostalgia there for sure. Queensland’s entry in the ACA Clogging Convention’s Showcase segment in Darwin in late June is soon to be finalised, and that’s when it’s all go to learn the steps and put on a great performance. The Get Rhythm Dance Team will be performing during the Convention. Convention registrations are still being accepted; email Denise Jenkins at [email protected] Our website at www.cloggingaustralia.com also has full information re Registration and accommodation. Keep movin’ in the right direction; that is, to your nearest Dance Club. Best Wishes, Frances—FRANCES LOOK O.A.M. EZ Squares Caboolture. Hello from EZ Squares. We are pleased to welcome 6 new dancers to our club this year. They are all doing really well and mastering the moves with ease. A few of our members have been off travelling the high seas and others are soon to set off but we still manage four – five squares most Tuesday nights. Some of our dancers have expressed their desire to learn plus so Glenn now has a plus class before the club night dance begins. Last weekend saw some of our members at a working bee to make props etc. for “Snakes Alive”, although it was a busy day and brought out the artistic side of us we all had a lot of fun followed by a bar-b-q lunch and catch up. Our club’s next social function will be a mini Olympic day. it will be interesting to see who takes out the prize for the champion athletic. “Snakes Alive” is fast approaching and we hope to see many old & new friends attend at the Burpengary Hall, Station Rd Burpengary on 11th & 12th April. Don’t forget the theme is “Roaring Twenties’ so dig out those flapper & gangster clothes and come join in the fun with the excellent calling of David Cox from Port Macquarie.

CANE COUNTRY SQUARES Our Club's 31st Birthday was celebrated with a social dinner for all members at a local venue before dancing the night away. Margi won our Club's Raffle for the $30.00 Dinner Voucher drawn that night. "A" Dancers have been dancing Tuesday afternoons with Shirley and Matthew has now commenced his fortnightly Sunday afternoon dancing. We welcomed a couple of keen new Round Dancers to learn with us this year. With a very wide spread and diverse publicity, we were very pleased to welcome 13 new dancers at our first night of learner's classes on a separate evening to Club dancing. Everyone had smiles on their faces and Matthew did a good job building their enthusiasm. We had just one person short of three sets that night. Club night learners brought another 3 people. Time will tell how many stay to enjoy our activities.
