BPES Newsletter January 2018 Jan. Trait/Disposition:

Principal Message Aloha BPES Ohana,

Friendly Reminder Parents please talk to your child about the importance of following the bus rules so everyone is safe. Students that break bus rules could lose the privilege to ride the bus. Bus Rules: * Keep hands & feet to yourself * Use kind words * Remain seated at all times (no switching seats during the ride or standing up at any time) * Hands & objects in the bus at all times * Keep an appropriate noise level (no screaming or yelling) * No eating or drinking on the bus

Welcome back! Hopefully everyone had a restful and enjoyable winter break with family and friends. As we begin 2018, I’d like to challenge the students of BPES to set both academic and personal goals for this year. As you know, each month BPES focuses on a different character trait or learner disposition in our character education classes with students. We recognize students from each class at our monthly Jet assembly that have displayed that attribute as well as give daily gotchas to students “caught being awesome” and modeling those traits. January’s character trait is compassion. Being genuinely concerned for the welfare of others is not only important in school but in life. Please continue to encourage your child to try their best and strive for success. Friday, January 26th from 5:30 p.m. -6:30 p.m. we have our next Family Curriculum Night which will focus on math games and activities. Keep an eye out for the registration forms which are due back by January 12th. Those interested in receiving free dinner (hot dogs and chips) prior to the event (5:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.) please be sure to indicate dinner information on the form so we can prepare enough food. We will also be having a lot of great raffle prizes to give away. Come and join us in a night of fun and BPES Ohana bonding. We look forward to an exciting second semester and thank you all for your continued support. Ms. Riel and Ms. Nagahiro

Big Thanks Thank you to Tommy Mascaro for collecting slippers and donating them to our school. Tommy is a sophomore at Kapolei High School. Five years ago Tommy wanted to figure out a way to give something back to his community and came up with a slipper drive. This year he split his donations between Makaha Elementary School and Barbers Point Elementary School.
