Open Week

REMINDERS

- Monday17th to Friday 21st October

by Mr. Peter Sloan Last year our Open Day event took place over one day and was held towards the end of the final term. This year we have decided to return to the previous format of an Open Week rather than an Open Day. This will take place from Monday 17th to Friday 21st October. Open Week provides parents with an important opportunity to get a flavour of the kind of learning that is taking place within the classrooms. During the week, we will be able to showcase the super work that is taking place in BPS. On the Monday, parents will be invited into the Amphitheatre to attend a session taken by our Senior Leadership Team that will introduce our parent community to learning in their child’s year group. This too is an important session and we would ask that you take the time to join us. The meeting on Monday will set the context for the lessons that you will see. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday parents will be able to come in to see a Maths lesson, an English lesson, a CLC lesson and one specialist lesson that your child will be taking part in. You are invited to arrive at the start of the lesson and to stay for a maximum of 30 minutes. You will be invited to sign up for ONE Maths, ONE English ONE CLC and ONE specialist lesson. We expect lots of interest and anticipate a positive response. In order to accommodate our parent body we will have around eight to twelve parents per session. A Booking Form will be sent out to you on Monday in order for you to sign up for the various sessions.

Given the number of parents, and children, involved we have to have rules in place that will ensure that our Open Week runs smoothly and that teaching and learning continues without too much disruption. We would ask that you help us by abiding by the following rules. • Only one parent per family can come in at any time.

Year 2 Trip to Buffalo Meadow Wed 5th October: B2.1/B2.3

• No preschoolers please. • Please be aware that some children may react differently with visitors in the room. If this is having a negative impact on the learning of any of the students then the teacher may ask parents to leave.

Thu 6th October: B2.2/B2.4

Year 5 Trip to Taipei Astronomical Museum Thu 5th October 2016

• You should only attend a lesson in which your child will be present. • Please do not take any photos or videos in the classroom. • Please turn all phones and devices off. • Please be guided by the teacher as to when it is appropriate to chat with other parents or talk with student during the lesson. • If you are due to stay over a playtime or lunch time, please go to the parent lounge. Please do not go to the playground or the cafeteria with your child. BPS are looking forward to welcoming you into classrooms for Open Week!

Year 4 children are exploring and using Doink Green Screen App by Thuy Ho & Mr. Dipak Mondal

Year 4 children are exploring and using Doink Green Screen App. We have been using iPads to design and create multimedia presentations. Being able to place videos, as well as still pictures, behind the presenter makes the presentation far more engaging for the viewer. Year 4 have been investigating different green screen film techniques, camera cam angles and shots. By using and applying this knowledge they will integrate their learning with the ‘Deadly 60’ topic and make their own video about a deadly animal. Hollywood films like Harry Potter use u similar green screening techniques to create incredible redible scenes often without us realising. Perhaps, amongst the Year 4 students, lurks a future visual effects professional. Here are some of the Year 4 opinions on this digital topic.

It’s really interesting, but it’s tricky to make both the green screen video and the background video work together together. Ethan Chen (B4.1)

It’s hard to hold the iiPad steady when filming. It feels strange to see yourself speaking on video.

Isabel Chen (B4.1)

It’s cool because we can make a video without having to go to unusual places. .

Kate Hsu (B4.3)

I found it easy because we don’t need many equipment to make our video. Aki Toide (B4.3)

I am learning and using lots of ICT skills. It is challenging to remember the script and speak fluently.

Maya Potter (B4.1)
