A Learning Organisation = Better Learning for our Children by Mr. Peter Sloan At BPS we are committed to creating professional development opportunities for our staff. While we always aim to recruit the best local and international candidates to work in our school we believe that we must ensure that we are always up to date with best practice internationally. This means that we have in place a programme that provides a range of training for staff. This training takes several forms and recent training has involved: • Sharing good practice in teaching and learning in IT with international schools in Hong Kong; • Drawing on staff expertise to set up inquiry groups looking at the developments in mathematics teaching in the UK curriculum; • Putting on first aid training for thirty of our staff;
• Teachers attending a range of courses focussing on areas that our school action plan has targeted. Last year staff attended courses on writing; this year reading will be an area of focus. The information from the courses is then shared with colleagues back in school. • Inviting world class providers to visit BPS to provide training for staff. Last year we had input from internationally acclaimed trainers looking at ‘The Big Write’ and the development of the integrated curriculum.

Challenge Yourself! Year 5 Surfing trip to Fulong Beach by Mrs. Alysha Adams It was an early start for Year 5 students and teachers last Friday, as we set off on our Challenge Yourself trip! The weather turned on the sun and heat for a perfect day at the beach. Each of the Year 5 classes rotated around different beach activities and instructors from the surfing school provided boards and a basic surfing training. ning. The children challenged themselves to try something new and a little scary! We were very proud of the way our students faced the challenge, showed perseverance and resilience, and encouraged others to do their best. The trip was an amazing success, and nd we thank the support from our Year 5 parents for enabling this trip to happen. The smiles, feelings of satisfaction and newly developed confidence will stay with the children, and with all involved, for a long while yet.
Year 3Trip to Taipei Zoo by Mr. Peter Groom Last week the Year 3 classes visited the Taipei Zoo as part of their project about the Animal Kingdom.
