THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY OF THE THEIR DREAMS – ELENOR ROOSEVELT
Looking to the Future
by Mr Peter Sloan
It’s our final newsletter and next week will be the final week for our Year 6 leavers. The children are preparing for their farewell assembly and are reflecting on the past and also looking to the future. During the recent maths/assessment workshops for parents we touched on the future (please see the article elsewhere in this issue). We focussed mainly on the short term, talking about planned changes that will bring about improvements to our mathematics curriculum and also the way in which our systems for assessment in BPS are going to offer more to pupils and parents. We also looked further ahead. The changes in the new curriculum are designed to help our children to become even better mathematicians, however, they are also being introduced to help our children to grow as problem solvers, to develop as individuals who will be able to consider a range of strategies and choose the best for the situation they find themselves in.
This will complement the IB Learner Profile in use at BSHS and will clearly identify the kind of learner we want our children to become confident, independent young people who make a positive contribution to their world. We look forward to hearing great things about our Year 6 leavers as they continue on their learning journey. We wish them all, together with those children across BPS who are moving on, a very fond farewell and all the best for their future. Thank you to all of our parents and families for their support during the last year. Thanks also to our hard working staff, teaching and nonteaching, for their care and commitment to our splendid children. I wish you all a safe, restful and delightful summer.

SASFAB Project at TES (Smart Art-design design Service in Fablab with IOT) IOT by Mr Duncan Millward Back in October, our BPS Tech Crew had a fantastic opportunity working with students from Tatung University and Kevin Cheng(Associate Professor, Graduate Institute of Design Science, Department of Computer Science and Engineering) in a Maker Day event, funded by the Ministry of Education. The children were given a problem and a design case to create something interactive and fun. Through problem solving,
collaboration, creative and critical thinking the children were able to make imaginary creatures come alive. The school was recently presented a Certificate for our involvement in this programme, by Kevin Cheng's wife Sandra. Sand In the new academic year we are hoping to conduct a similar programme programme.

On Tuesday 06 June, Mrs Katrina Millward led a parent workshop to share the way BPS is tackling the new 2014 UK Curriculum for Maths, through a Mastery Approach. The workshops worksho had a great turnout overall, and participants received a glossy brochure outlining new information. This will go out to all parents in the new academic year. A big thank you to Mrs Millward and the Core Curriculum Leaders for all of their hard work this year. For or the slides of presentation, please click here: http://gg.gg/2017_MathsWorkshop

Thank you & See you Next School Year! This will be our final ‘Bulletin’ of the school year and I would like to say a big thank you to Diana Doo who has served as editor, photographer, reporter and production team. We’ve had very positive feedback about the ‘Bulletin’ and her hard work in preparing prepa and presenting our BPS newsletter has definitely been well worthwhile.
