26 th May 2017 . A TROPHY CARRIES DUST. MEMORIES LAST FOREVER – MARY LOU RETTON

Looking Ahead to Next Year! This Friday was Transition Day for BPS students. After assembly they shared a lesson with their teacher for the next school year in their new classroom. It’s always a special moment as the new class joins together for the first time and start to get to know each other as well as meeting their class teacher for the forthcoming year. We have sent a separate letter home today that outlines our staffing for next year and identifies the class your child will be joining. Class teachers who will be joining us for the new year sent through presentations that existing staff shared with the children. So although they did not get to meet their new teacher in person, they got a flavour of what to look forward to in August. Every year we have changes in our faculty as staff move on to new positions and different challenges. This is normal for every international school. At the end of this term we’ll say thank you and farewell to our outgoing colleagues and in August we will welcome the new members of our faculty to Taipei European School in general and the British Primary School in particular. Below I have provided a brief introduction to our new staff. All are well qualified and

experienced teachers selected from more than 150 applications that we received from teachers all over the world who want to work at BPS. I am sure that you will welcome all our new staff to the BPS family when they join us in August. Clare Doyle is currently working at an international school in Brunei. She is married to Phil and they have two children. Clare is originally from the UK and will be teaching next year in Year 1. Phil Doyle, married to Clare, is also working at an international school in Brunei. He too is from the UK and next year will be teaching in Year 3. John Preston is joining BPS from an international school in Myanmar. He began his teaching career in New Zealand and is married to Rebecca who will be joining us as a teacher in Year 6. Next year he will be teaching in Year 3. Rebecca Preston is a New Zealander who also joins from teaching in an international school in Myanmar. Rebecca is married to John and next year will be teaching in Year 6.

Jennifer Laird is currently teaching in an international school in Bangkok. Jennifer is from the UK and next year she will be teaching in Year 5. Katherine Kyle is joining us from an international school in Brunei. Her husband, Ed, will be working in the High School. They have two children. Katherine will be joining the BPS PE Department. Katherine is originally from the UK. Sarah Kuo is joining us from an IB curriculum school here in Taipei. She will be a new teacher in our Chinese Language and Culture Team. Sarah is from Taiwan. Other changes see Mrs. Millward taking on a full time role as Assistant Head, Mr. Cheung taking up the position of IT Enrichment Teacher and Ms. Kuo becoming full time Counsellor for BPS. We are also welcoming three new staff, Herman Hammer Julia Chow and Francisco Garcia Acien, Hammer, to our EAL team. The Secret Garden by Miss Sophie Hockey

WOW! Who knew that the Reception children would be such fabulous performers?! All the staff are so proud of their big ideas for the show, help to paint the set, super talking, dancing and singing. We enjoyed seeing so many creatures come out to play... crazy frogs, owls, bats, fireflies, ladybugs, ants, crazy caterpillars eating fruits, beautiful butterflies, bu even acrobatic spider-men men and glow in the dark cartwheels! A special thank you to Mrs Lin, Ms Gerber and Mr Chang for their help with learning songs, editing music, lights and microphones! Another big thank you to all of our amazing learning assistants and parents who helped to design and make the backdrop for the garden. Thank you for joining us and for being such a great audience. This show demonstrates how far the children have come during their time in Reception and we have loved working as a big team to celebrate the end of our year in style! Congratulations to all the Reception children.
