SPECIAL COMING UP NEXT NE WEEK

WE CAN’T HELP EVERYONE, BUT EVERYONE CAN HELP SOMEONE – RONALD REAGAN

Becoming Global Citizens at BPS Living in the prosperous, safe and comfortable city of Taipei it’s hard to believe that, as I write this, over 20 million people are facing starvation. Several countries, mainly in Africa, are facing a famine of catastrophic proportions. At BPS we are very much committed to enabling our children to achieve academic excellence, it is a critical element in their education. However, we also believe that it is our responsibility, working in partnership with our parents, to help them to grow as emotionally intelligent and responsible young people. We want them to understand the challenges they will meet in the world about them and, as they grow, to be able to find ways to respond to those challenges within their community, be they local or global. At the end of last term one of our Year 6 pupils came to me to tell me that he was concerned about the plight of children in Africa who were caught up in the famine and asked if BPS could do something to help. We have discussed this in school and agreed that we will have a very simple fundraiser that will generate money that can then be sent to help those caught up in the famine. st

On Friday 21 April we are inviting all our children to come into school for a Non

by Mr. Peter Sloan

Uniform - Fight the Famine Day. In return for a day free from uniform, children should bring in a minimum donation of NTD100 on the day. This can be given to the class teacher. All money raised will be sent to World Vision Taiwan, an organisation that is providing famine relief, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. This project gives our school an opportunity to discuss global issues and to talk about ways in which we can positively respond and how they can make a difference. We have talked to children about the day in assembly this morning and will be touching on the reasons behind it again next week.

A Close Shave for Non Uniform – Fight the Famine Day! The staff are also getting involved in the Non Uniform – The Famine Day. Mr. Mullins, Year 6 leader, has volunteered to shave off his beard as an encouragement for children to donate! A bit of fun to make a serious point.

EPC Sports Day Report

2

by Mr. Steven Milner

I hope all parents had the opportunity to see their child in one of the three Sports Days that were held prior to the Spring Break: Foundation Sports Day saw the children displaying their gymnastics skills of flight, balance and shape after which each child and willing mums and dads got the chance to show how fast they could run in the sprint races.

Both KS1 & KS2 Sports Day saw classes competing in a carousal of stations which challenged the children with an array of athletic and PE activities such as running, throwing, rolling, hurdling, jumping, bouncing and dribbling activities. Each chil child’s effort through the morning gained points for their tribe: Ami, Bunan, Paiwan or Rukai.

Sadly, poor weather caused the KS1 Sports Day to move inside into the MPR but still allowed for an exciting arena for parents to watch their child in action!

When all the points were added, this year saw a new victorious tribe emerging as winner- Ami! Please enjoy the selection of photos below from all three Sports Days.
