SETTING GOALS IS THE FIRST STEP IN TURNING THE INVISIBLE INTO THE VISIBLE – TONY ROBINNS

Anniversary Tiles and Totems Totems! Towards the end of the last school year we th discussed how we could best mark the 25 Anniversary of the British Section. There were many ideas, some of which will form a part of our celebration cycle. We have already marked the date itself with special assemblies and Anniversary mementoes. We can now look forward to our concert in May having a special Anniversary theme. We are also creating some fantastic art works that will serve as a legacy of this special occasion. This part of the celebration is being organised and implemented by Mrs. Liufalani. So far we have some tremendous totem poles, designed and made during ECAs. When the totem poles are in place they will have a special full colour feature all of their own in The Bulletin! We are also on the threshold of our next legacy artwork - a terrific tile mosaic. This particular project celebrates the unity of our three sections and will involve children from the French, German and British sections working together to create something special – just like TES! Every child will design and paint their very own

tile, which will then be fired. The tiles will be joined together in a special place in the school site and will be there as a reminder that the most important element in our school are the children from all three sections.

by Mrs. Georgina Robinson

Over the Christmas holidays the gingerbread man came to visit Year 2 children. When he realised that the children were away on holiday, he decided to take himself on a tour of the school to find out what being a student at TES is like. However, he left some gingerbread men friends along the way and some clues to help find them. Year 2 children took

part in a hunt around the school matching familiar phrases to traditional tales and bringing the gingerbread man's friends safely back to the classroom. "You won't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!"

AppJamming workshop by Mr. Duncan Millward Lovrincevic "Done is better than perfect" was the motto for the First Code Academy's AppJamming Workshop on Saturday 7th January. 45 students aged 8 - 11 from all three sections took part in the coding workshop. The AppJamming program has taught over 4000 students in Hong Kong and Singapore since it was launched in 2013. The course covered basic computer mputer science concepts, introduced AppInventor as a language and emphasised project-based based learning. During the 4 hour session children became familiar with the AppInventor programme and developed their own app. The game that they developed was in the style of the "Whack-a-mole" mole" game. The children showed quick initiative with the use of the programme and were soon thinking outside of the box in terms of improvements to their game. At the end of the workshop it was great to see so many parents come along to see what their children had been creating.

Notice regarding footballs

On completion of this workshop, children can now enter into an Asia AsiaPacific competition called AppJamming Summit (http://appjammingsummit.org/about http://appjammingsummit.org/about-ajs), where children design an App. This year the theme is #GETAPPTIVE, to design a Health and Fitness app. Even children who were not part of the workshop this time can take part, as coding is part of our school Computing curriculum. It would be fantastic to see a team te from Taipei European School taking part in this international competition. A big thank you to Mrs Melanie Hall and Mr Dipak Mondal for spending their Saturday helping out with the workshop. Future Workshops are being worked out and details will be sent to parents as soon as we have them.

by Mr. Peter Sloan

The Primary Senior Leadership Team, which includes all three sections, have been discussing the use of footballs from home. Despite a request that no football, other than in ECAs take place at that time, there have been several instances of footballs from home home being used at the end of the school day. The Primary Senior Leadership Team have therefore come to the decision that, from Monday 16th January, the school will provide all footballs for outdoor play and for ECAs. We ask parents to ensure that children do not bring footballs from home to school any more. This will not limit the amount of football or interest that the children have at play times as Mr Milner and Mr Boit will ensure there are plenty of resources for children to use. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents and children that after school the area that children can be in with their parents supervising is the central playground area. The area around the infant section and the astroturf area at the back are used for ECA ECAs and parents and children must not be in these areas after 3.15pm. We appreciate your assistance with this matter.

Many thanks to our Year 3 parents who have been hard at work with their Year Group Bake Sale this Friday. There was a wide selection of sweet treats which were demolished by students and staff. Delicious!

Bubble Football Team Building Triumph! by Mr. Peter Sloan Lovrincevic This Monday our PTA Committee held a sporty team building event with a Bubble Football competition. The committee members donned plastic bubbles and took to the football field. The aim of the game was apparently to score goals, although it seemed as if knocking over the opposition was much more fun!

There was lots of laughter, no major injuries and a great time had by all. Well done to our PTA Committee, we've always known that they work hard, now we know that they can play hard ha too!
