BOT-TROT (ROBOTICS) @ GEEK-A-CON ‘10 “The danger of past was that man became slaves, the danger of future is that man may become robots.” - Erich Fromm

Robots have had a rich legacy in all industries. There use is now a common practise in all dimensions. We at BOT-TROT are looking for some of the best designs which can maneuver through a path laden with obstacles

THEME The goal of the contest is development of a wired/wireless robot capable of performing specific tasks in safest, fastest and most efficient way possible. Use of robots is a common practice in industries. The ATV(All Terrain Vehicle) shall move through the path which has a number of obstacles on it at different positions.

OUTLINE OF THE CONTEST The game will be based on time trial. You can spend more and more time inside the arena to grab maximum points, though there is a maximum limit of 12 minutes for a machine to be inside the arena exceeding which the game will be stopped then and there and points tally at that time will be the final score of that team. The game area consists of four zones along with the rest of the path. Each of the four zones has a certain point weight age which is as follows: ZONE A would be covered with sand (or gravel) and comprise 2 points. ZONE B would be covered with sand (or gravel) and comprise 6 points. ZONE C is a see-saw arrangement and comprise 5 points. Height of the seesaw (in the middle)=13cm ZONE D is a low friction surface and comprise 10 points. A line ‘L’ divides the arena into two parts , you should cross L within 7 minutes of the start of the round, failing of which would result into straight disqualification of the machine. The first part of the arena has two squares sq.1 and sq. 2, sq.1 comprise the actual path of the machine while sq.2 is empty space. The robot has to move in clockwise direction inside sq.1( THE ROBOT MUST COMPLETE ONE FULL ROUND INSIDE SQ. 1), after that as per the amount of time left to cross the line L

the robot can make more clockwise rounds inside sq.1 in order to earn more and more points(you will be notified about time left after each round made by the machine inside sq.1) you know that time waits for nobody, not even for the bloody points counter, so better don’t be too desirous for the points and keep track of the time before making another round of the bigger square

GAME RULES a. Each round will be played by one team independently. b. Before the start of the round, the machine will have to be placed in the start zone.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS a. All the relevant dimensions are provided in the diagram of the arena. b. The machine should fit inside a box of dimension 25cm x 25cm x 25cm before starting of the match and weigh less than 2 kg. c. The motors used in the robot should not exceed ratings of 75rpm( rotations per minute) d. The organizers will provide a standard 230V/50 Hz AC power supply. Any eliminator, adaptor, etc required will have to be arranged by participants themselves. Please do not make any special demands. e. In case of electric power supply, the voltage at any point must be lower or equal to 24V DC during the game. f. During the game the machine is allowed to expand its parts provided it does not damage the arena in any way. g. The machine must be controlled by wired/wireless remote control mechanism at all stages of the game. h. In case of wired mechanism the wire must be slack at all point of time during the game. Please ensure a fairly long wire considering the arena dimensions. i. USE OF LEGO PARTS OR READYMADE ASSEMBLY FROM TOYS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED
