The Story Behind the Treble Clef: Family Roots in Denmark, Oregon
History of Local Schools
Curry & Southern Coos Counties
A first time, self-published author, Mrs. Cox has spent more than a dozen years researching her book. The subject of her research is the nearly gone, mostly forgotten, hamlet of Denmark, Oregon. She writes of the origin of Denmark, Oregon and the circumstances compelling immigrants from Denmark, Europe to leave their country and settle in this isolated area of the southern Oregon coast. Woven throughout the work is the absorbing account of her father, Charlie Jensen. Charlie was the son of homesteader, Johan Peter Frederick Jensen. Charlie was well known in the area for his musical presence, having influenced scores of children and adults, to tap into their artistic side. But, more than a story of music is the story of a young boy growing up in a time before cars and airplanes were invented and living way beyond man’s first walk on the moon. Mrs. Cox is well on her way to completing her second work of NF which highlights the history of schools in southern Coos and northern Curry Counties.
